Self Portraits - Camera, Lights, Action
Sometimes, one has something to say and no one but his own self to say it with. So, out come the camera, lights, etc.
The first image
I used to be on the road a lot in western Canada. I worked trade shows. As a result, I dined in restaurants frequently. Usually at the bar. Poorly lit.
This was a period of time that Breaking Bad was a big hit on TV. Dark environment. Numerous times, the guy beside me would say, "Can I get a photo with you?" My immediate response would usually be, "I'm not 'the guy'!" Reply: "Yeah, but my friends won't know that!" ":)"
So, I've been meaning for quite some time to do it up properly. Create some good lighting and proper outfit. And of course a gun and pork pie hat. The satchel is not in this photo but I have that as well. Hope you like the photo!
If y'all want to do a photo shoot with my version of Walter White/Heisenberg, please, please don't hesitate to ask. (Most people don't reach out but remember, I'm real easy to talk to...)
The Third Image (Old West)
This image was a sort of response to some gun violence that occurred recently in Toronto. Where some bad hats were trying to steal cars and break into houses. As a result, good guys, otherwise called normal citizens, tried to defend themselves with guns.
In one of these instances, the person defending himself and property was arrested and jailed. Whereas the bad guys got away. (More often than not, these bad guys are out on bail anyway.) Result of our government's 'catch and release' program: current joke of a justice system.
Proportional Force
"In Canada, the concept of proportional force is central to self-defence laws, particularly under Section 34 of the Criminal Code. Proportional force means that the response to a threat must be reasonable and not excessive.
For instance, if someone is physically attacked, they may use force to defend themselves, but the force used must be proportionate to the threat faced."
Tell me how an inexperienced person, one who is inexperienced in self-defence, is supposed to know how much force to use. Particularly, when an unknown entity is attacking. This is the most absurd notion I've ever heard.
I hope you understand the meaning behind the image.
More Expressive Portraits
The last few photos are a little different. Still self-portraits. Trying some different expressions. I've been photographing people for years. It seems so many are afraid to really get creative with their poses and expressions.
Thus, many portrait are dull. If you are brave enough, you can get some really unique portraits.
