Channeling my George Hurrell – Hollywood Photographer

Channeling my George Hurrell

I’ve always been a huge fan of Hollywood photographer George Hurrell. (June 1, 1904 – May 17, 1992)(June 1, 1904 – May 17, 1992)

I photographed this young woman back in the late 1990s.
She had the perfect look for this and the perfect dress.

The whole time I was shooting, I was imagining a George Hurrell studio setting.

I’ve keep the negatives from this photo shoot almost 30 years.  They were pretty beat up.  But…with Photoshop and a couple of other programs including AI, I’ve been able to clean them up pretty nicely. Additionally, you might see that I’ve added some appropriate backgrounds.  The images of the young lady are exactly as I took them.

And if you are ever interested in researching the subject… People sometimes get in a tiff about the amount of editing done on portraits.  Check out some of the before and after photos from some Hollywood photographers from the 30s and 40s.  They were shooting very large format negatives.  Those negatives could be worked on for days before printing.
