Remington Portraits
Fredric Remington did this painting of me sometime in the late 1890s. Was quite nice of him. I haven't changed all that much.
Remington was born October 4th 1861.
Took him years to develop his skill at painting. Started with sketches that were somewhat mediocre. He attempted ranching, owning a hardware store and at one time, a saloon. None of these fared well.
He eventually became quite famous, though, as a painter of the ‘Old West’. He was actually related to another artist of the time, George Catlin. Catlin had done a portrait of me at another time.
Frederic Remington’s fame was helped along at one point by Teddy Roosevelt. He was commissioned by Roosevelt to do 83 illustrations for a book Teddy was doing. The book was Ranch Life and the Hunting Trail.
