The hardware component of spyder2pro is the award-winning Spyder2 colorimeter. This colorimeter attaches to your LCD, CRT, or laptop screen (the hardware is designed to be very gentle on delicate LCD screens), and then connects to your computer via USB cable. New state-of-the-art optical science provides a five-fold increase in color sensitivity over previous technology with a patent-protected light baffle for accurate characterization of LCD displays. Great Monitor Calibration, ok printer calibration May 20, 2008
I bought this product because it has the best value: a lower cost compared to its competitors, and ability on calibrate monitors and printers.
Setup is easy, takes about 10 mins, and gives multiple options for standards to calibrate against, such as sRGB. Measures gamma, color temp, and blk & wht luminances, and has ability to make ICC profiles (maybe edit too?)
Printer unit works by calibration against known setting from paper type and ink. No spectrophotometer unit to verify color absorption.

This is a great tool to insure that the edits you make on digital photographs produce the results you want in final prints. Intuitive to use, quick calibration, and useful reminders for periodic re-calibrations make this product a no-brainer for digital photographers.
Dual Monitor Use For Video Editing January 5, 2008

I've been using Spyder 2PRO for several months to edit video on a Mac Book Pro 17' with a secondary monitor, switching between several different types of monitors including LCD and NTSC. During startup, the Mac determines which monitor is connected and applies the appropriate profile. After getting the hang of the software, matching monitor calibration was achieved and the relevant data stored with each monitor's profile. The only drawback has been the lack of Mac Book Pro's individual brightness and contrast manual controls which required several passes through monitor setup to find the best combination. After checking the calibrations using SMPTE color bars with a blue filter I am quite pleased with the results. Tips for the novice: Turn off all auto options on the computer such as keyboard backlight, ambient adjust, etc. and allow the Spyder ambient sensor to take light measurements and indicate changes in room lighting. Also, turn off all desktop pictures/designs and select solid medium gray as the backdrop when working with images.

As a professional photographer, I rely on my images for my income. That's why after purchasing another monitor, I calibrated it with SpyderPro 2.
It works as advertised. But be aware, this is not a 'point and click and done' operation. It took nearly 4 hours to calibrate my monitor. I have a very fast Mac dual core, so don't go there. The time is in the details. The Spyder takes measurements, for different colors, has you adjust them, then tries again. I found very small adjustment make big differences to the Spyder, but not to the human eye.
Bottom line, I recommend the SpyderPro 2, but keep in mind it will take time, and (at least in my case) monitor adjustments are very finite.

I specifically purchased Spyder2Pro to calibrate my MacBook Pro 17" to a new Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP. After many failed attempts to get the Dell to look closer to my MBP display with its built-in Dell monitor controls, I turned to Spyder2Pro because I mirror the display. I ran it a few times with different settings, but I honestly have not found the right profile yet. It certainly looks better than it did before but some colors are just not right and that bothers me. My problems are blues look too purple, tans lean towards orange, and whites have a cast. As a Web Designer, I want better accuracy when proofing my sites on my own monitor before I present to clients and see it on their different monitors. I have not tested the printer side of the software yet. I'm on the fence as to whether I'd recommend the product.
