4 out of 5 stars Great Value   September 16, 2008
This DVD is great for beginners and a good refresher of the basics for everyone. It nicely complements "The Betterphoto Guide to Digital Photography". A great value for the price.

1 out of 5 stars Not what I expected...unfortunately.   July 14, 2008

I ordered this DVD hoping to learn the basics of photography. As a beginner, I was looking for more technical information and explanation. The majority of the time he spoke as if the viewer should already know most of the technical information i.e., fstops, aperature, etc., and talked more about the cameras themsleves. However, at other times he was very basic with information, so his consistency left much to be desired. I did learn about lighting and composition to a degree. It seemed to be more about him and his team getting the pictures of the animals for than it was about digital photography. I think it could have been presented better and focused more on photography itself and less on the animals and capturing the perfect shot in the moment. More technical explanation without him rushing to get the shot of the animal would have been better. Maybe I just chose the wrong DVD for what I was looking for, but even after trying to make the most of it I didn't think the flow or continuity was well done at all.

3 out of 5 stars Did I get the same copy as you?   February 22, 2008

Ok I got this because every one gave it a 4-5 star. Said it was jam packed with info, and exciting.... well I must have received a different version. it was more like watching ANIMAL PLANET with a little bit of camera info tossed in instead of a training video on photography with animals for models. Ya he takes you out on a shoot, with a class of 15-20 people. So everyone is yelling and gabbing trying to get the animals to look their way as trainers parade them by the cameras trying to get tath perfect shot. At the same time the teacher is given you tid bits on how to shoot the scene. They do this with several different animals from large cats to cows and horses. I had to keep rewinding to hear what he was saying cuz I was getting to distracted by all the buzz in the background, the teacher himself would get side tracked by the same buzz. and have to stumble thru what he was telling you. if you don't beleive me watch the bloopes at the the end.
at the very end of the DVD he dose a TOP 10 Review of the whole DVD, this recaps all that he explained during the shoots, without all the distraction. it was to the point and did offer some good info. So unless you prefer to watch 20 mins of a cowboy chasing a herd back n forth, and then 15 mins of a trainer tossing meat to a cat trying to get it to jump from one rock to another. and then another 15 min of another animal and so on, Then skip to the last 10 mins to learn what you bought the DVD for, then later when you feel like watching ANIMAL PLANET then you can go back and watch the rest. or better yet
if you want a good training DVD, get BRYAN PETERSON'S (THE PERFECT PICTURE) he tells you how to use your camera and different lenses and explains in easy to follow direction when to use what Fstop, iso and shutter speed, and gives before and after shots so you can see clearly why.

5 out of 5 stars Great DVD!   February 9, 2008
Perfect for me as a beginner photographer! Enjoyed all the information Miotke shared in this DVD. Hope he does another for professional photographers. I would definitely look forward to owning it!

4 out of 5 stars Nice for beginners   February 9, 2008
Nice video, shows basic techniques for photography. If you just started and don't really know anything about photography this is good one. If you are passed that phase, buying this dvd might be a waste of your time; go for something more advanced.
On negative side of the dvd, picture quality isn't that great; you can see lines thru moving objects etc.
