My manual really is missing! October 14, 2006 39 out of 44 found this review helpful
I recieved PSE 5.0 as a gift purchased here on Amazon. It arrived with no manual, only the CD, a few flyers, and a 38 page "Getting Started Guide". Then I joined Adobe's User to User Forum and was told that Adobe sells some "small box" as I got and some "large box" with a 200+ page manual included.
I purchased "The Missing Manual" for PSE 5 by Barbara Brundage, but that cost $40 at my local Barnes & Noble.
A word to the wise...
Basic Features Missing October 13, 2006 49 out of 88 found this review helpful
I have loved every version until now. There is no undo/redo buttons (although they clearly state there are in the documentation) and no save button. I don't know what else it is missing yet as I have only been using it a few days, but these features are extremely important and I am ready to return the program and go back to 4.0. I opened a case with customer support (after spending hours on their web site trying to figure out how to open a case) and they told me to call technical support. I am pretty fed up with Adobe at this point. They need to do something quickly to make up for this major goof.
An Excellent Upgrade from PSE4 October 10, 2006 34 out of 39 found this review helpful
This product is well worth the upgrade. it was simple to install and none of the elements of PSE4 seem to be missing. Moreover many new features are very attractive. For example, the Organizer now permits expanding versions directly from the top photo rather than from a pull down menu. Curves is another very nice feature. While it is not as complete as in CS2 it is very felexible in the advanced mode permitting creation of "S" and "Inverted-S" curves. Scrapbookers also have a number of enhancements and I have had no problems moving plug-ins to this version. All-in-all an excellent product and highly recommended for those who want a lot of flexibility without the complexity of CS2.
A downgrade, with NO upside October 5, 2006 77 out of 131 found this review helpful
My previous review, saying this and more, apparently was censored or lost in the "bit bucket". I won't repeat all the details, but 5.0 is a more crippled and dumbed-down version of 4.0. It omits selection brushes, sharpening filters, and even the "Undo" and "Redo" icons on the shortcuts bar - even though Help still mentions them. The "Magic Extractor" is even more useless than before. They've added a color curve adjustment, but you can't actually touch or adjust the curve.
Keep 4.0, if you have it. Or go to Paintshop Pro XI. Either of those is better than APE 5.
