it's like getting a new computer August 25, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Hardware calibration is the only way to go and the Huey worked great on my PC and Mac. Very easy to set up and calibration takes only minutes. I was amazed by just how bad the tones were on my computers. Reading is easier on the eyes now and my picture browser doesn't have the ugly yellow tint anymore.
For those who are complaining about it not working, please be sure you've aligned the device directly over the area of the screen where the color cycling occurs during the wizard. Otherwise, the device will not be able to detect color shifts and will spit out an error message instead. You might have to run the wizard twice in order to figure out where the color patch will show up exactly.
Good value August 24, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Easy installation. Does what it claims. For the best photo printing results you will have to calibrate your printer for the paper you are using. Fortunately that step is free. Go to your paper manufacturers website and download the correct driver for your printer/paper.
Huey is just OK August 9, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have tried the Huey and it made two perceptible differences. The screen is now slightly pinker (less green) and more linear near the black point. The images look washed out, lower contrast. I'm not sure I like it or not. I have done many tests on the monitor and I prefer the look I've had with the profiles I generated by hand using Adoba Gamma and other programs. Huey changes the screen when I turn on the lights, as expected. Whether it stays "the same" for editing is questionable. What I don't like is that I can't tweak up the color in the profile it produces. So, it's OK I guess. Wouldn't wildly recommend it except for people frustrated with trying their own adjustments.
Great colorimeter at a good price August 7, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The Huey really helped me to improve the accuracy of my prints. When used in conjunction with my mini lab's printer profiles, I get accurate results on screen. There may be fancier colorimeters, but this one seems to get the job done nicely.
It is easy to set up and use. Periodic calibration takes about 30 seconds and is very simple. The small suction cups seem to have lost some of their grip, but I simply apply gentle pressure to the Huey to hold it to the screen when calibrating it.
Would not work at all August 6, 2007 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
Installed the software, no problem. Plugged the Huey device into a USB port and it was recognized by my computer, no problem. Clicked on the Huey icon to run the program and the screen came up with the "start" button, no problem. Clicked on the "start" button and the program immediately terminated. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, same results.
Called Pantone. A human answered the phone after one ring -- impressive. Bad news, he indicated that my problem seems to occur frequently with Dell computers (which I have). Something about the USB ports not providing enough power for the Huey device to function properly and that I'd need to get a USB hub with its own power supply. Ugh. I suppose I could get one (they're inexpensive), but what's to say that that's indeed going to solve my problem. I've already spent too much time trying to get this $65 product to work.
Long story short, Huey's getting returned. Huey, we never even knew ya.
