Nothing here January 5, 2003 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I wish somebody had told me what I'm going to tell you when I subscribed for this magazine. If you are looking for a magazine that discusses photography techniques and helps you try out new ideas, subscrbing for this magazine would be a total waste of your money. 80% of the magazine is dedicated to ads, there are some that run for 40 pages. In the Jan issue for example I could find only 2 useful articles in the 150+ pages! what an awful waste of space. Stay away from this magazine unless you are looking for a EQUIPMENT CATALOG.
Shutterbug--an anomaly among photomags January 3, 2003 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Have been a subscriber now for some time, and now with the February 2003 edition with the new format (new size, better paper), I anticipate great things for this, the cheapest but most useful photomag I know. Other photomags pander to the best wishes of their biggest advertisers, in a word: boring. ... But Shutterbug is much more than just ads--look at the February issue for some really excellent articles and well-printed photos.
Buyer beware October 31, 2002 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
This magazine bases its business on accepting advertisements from a large amount of mail order camera stores, of which many use unscrupulous business practices and have been the center of many complaints. The magazine has yet to police itself of such unscrupulous advertisers in order to protect you,the reader, in your purchases of photo equipment. There is very little technical content found in this magazine.
This magazine is all about shopping October 20, 2002 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Another reviewer stated that this is a good magazine for those who want to buy new equipment. I would add that a large amount of space is dedicated to used equipment as well. That is the main reason to buy it as far as I'm concerned. The do have equipment reviews, and the occasional article about technique. If you really want equipment reviews though, you'd be better off with Popular Photography. No photography magazine EVER gives ANY new equipment a bad review, but Pop Photography at least does a good job of listing all the features.
Shutterbug Magazine Review August 21, 2002 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
Shutterbug magazine is a great magazine for people intersted in purchasing camera equipment due to the large amount of advertisements included in the magazine. Also the magazine includes reviews and previews of new camera equipment. The one problem with the magazine is that it gives very little photographic advice. So if your interested in purchasing new equipment and reading reviews and previews for new equipment, shutterbug magazine is for you. Because not only does shutterbug tell you about whats new and what to buy in camera equipment, it has around 30 different camera stores advertising cameras with two of the stores each with around 20 page ads.If your not interested in purchasing new equipment, and your just interested in photography advice, stay away from shutterbug.
