Screw is little loose and build quality is not that great! August 6, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Save your money on something else since the build quality is very disappointing. I used the hand grip for my EOS XT & XTI and they performed excellent and the build quality were far better than this one. I have overtightened the screw one time and I couldn't remove it from my 40D. I sent both of my camera and the hand grip to Canon factory for service. I got it back fixed but I am afraid it will break again since the screw is still little loose. My suggestion is NOT to get one from the beginning.
Canon BG-E2N Battery Grip July 28, 2008 I'm short on time as well as money, sometimes you just need to bite the bullet and buy the very best the first time around.I have no experience with 3RD party Battery Grips but after reading a ton of their reviews,I've chosen to take the short cut to satisfaction and buy the Cannon Grip instead of trying to save some money and experiment with second best. The Cannon Grip is the real deal, no short commings and I find the dual battery level reading is right on the money.I really enjoy using this product.
I leave it on my 40D all the time July 17, 2008 One I got used to this thing, I started just leaving it on the camera. You never know when you're going to flip your camera on its side. When you do, it's nice to have the vertical controls right there, at your fingertips.
Does it's job, does it well. Feel durable.
I have seen another interesting option from Satechi--google them. They make a battery grip for Canon stuff that has a little LCD on it and some other neat features. Looks cool. I think it's even cheaper than the Canon one. Is it as durable? I can only speculate. Anyway, it's worth looking at before you make your decision. I am content with my canon grip however. As I said, it lives on my camera!
Get A Grip!!! July 13, 2008 This is my second DSLR camera and my second camera to have a grip. I know it's a preferential thing, but I'm one that prefers to use a grip. The camera body feels much more balanced, especially when longer, heavier lenses are attached. It's also nice to have the controls on the grip when you're shooting in portrait orientation. Finally, the dual-battery in the grip means you've got all the juice you'll need for a long day of shooting. As a final thought, have you noticed how the 1D-series professional bodies come with the grip as part of the body? I wonder why that is? Think about it! ;-)
If you own one of these cameras buy this now! July 12, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Okay, I have done photography as a hobby for 9 years. A few years ago I bought one of these for my Cannon EOS Elan 7n, and I completely fell in love with it. So, naturally when I recently bought my Cannon 40D I had to have one. In fact it was the second thing I picked up after the camera box and before I even picked up a lens. First let me say that it is terrible to be outside somewhere and have a battery go dead in your camera. That happened to me a few times. The nice thing about this is that it can hold 1 or 2 of the standard Cannon batteries. The major draw back to any boot is that it will significantly add weight to your camera. Do not doubt for a moment that the camera will not gain a couple pounds from this thing. In my opinion the biggest advantage to having a boot, is that it can hold normal AA batteries. That is correct. I carry around a bunch of rechargeable AA batteries around with me. Any time that my battery goes dead, I can take the boot grip AA adapter, fill it with AA's and replace the Cannon Battery. Another nice thing is that no matter where you go, if there is a convenience store or gas station you can usually find AA batteries. In addition to this it will have a focus button on the bottom corner of the boot for vertical pictures. This way when you rotate your camera for the vertical shot the focus button is on the top of the grip where you are used to having the focus button. The shot feels just as natural as a horizontal one There is also an on/off switch to turn on/off the focus button. I just leave it on all the time. I can see turning it off if you put the camera into the camera bag, but switching the switch in a crucial picture moment would be bad. So, I just leave it on. Overall I would say the added extra weight is acceptable considering the ability to use AA rechargeable batteries in the camera. The added vertical shot focus button is a nice addition too. I just know that I will never own another camera without one.
