5 out of 5 stars Known as the 112 in Ausralia   June 28, 2008

I have owned one of these for the past 6 months.
Despite initial problems with startup, after the retail shop replace it for a new one, it hasnt missed a beat.
I read all of my books on it and have over 600 ebooks on my 2GB card.
Battery life is about 16 hours continuous use.
Wifi is great but it is hard to use the internet due to the screen proportions.
Overall a great product which replaces the non existant Kindle (not available in Australia).

4 out of 5 stars Great Product   June 18, 2008
The product works great. I'm transitioning from Palm to Pocket PC so I do have some grips about the Windows Mobile OS but the device itself works good and does more then my Palm.

The hardware is small and fits good in my pocket but I wish the alarm was louder and had a vibrating alert. The screen is vibrant and is good for viewing pictures. I've only viewed short video clips and they look good but I'm not sure how it will hold up with the dark and bright screens from movies..

My grips with the Windows Mobile OS are:
The calender does not all you to view a full 24 hour period on the screen same with a week view you need to scroll up and down to see all the details. I wish the alarms were more customizable as far as how often they beep on alerts.

3 out of 5 stars JUNK - 1 STAR   June 11, 2008

I was given this on Saturday for my birthday. On Monday, I went for a motorcycle ride w/my hubby. He put my purse in his trunk. The IPAQ was in a case inside my purse. When we got home, I wanted to update my calendar for the Tasks we had accomplished while out and about. Silly thing wouldn't turn on. Worked perfectly that morning. Paperweight by midafternoon. Hubby called HP tech support. Even a hard reset did nothing. Are these things really that fragile? A couple bumps on the roadway sends it crashing to worthlessness? I'm giving it a 4 for now. We are going to try a 2nd unit when the store gets them back in stock. It was a really cool device, I thoroughly enjoyed it for the 2 days I was able to use it ... and then it died.

Okay, I've decided. This is a giant, overpriced, piece of you know what! I received my 2nd unit on Friday of last week. Charged it up. It was wonderful. Today is Tuesday. Died again. I got up this morning to find that it never charged last night although it was plugged in before I went to bed. Battery was at 89% vice 100% as it should've been. Hubby messed around with it. We thought maybe the USB cable had gone bad overnight. Well, after some tinkering, hubby got the HP screen again. I told him to just return it for a refund, I don't even want a third one. A $300 paperweight. Instead of dying after just two days, this one lasted four. Improvment, but not enough to keep me from thinking this is just a big ole hunk of junk! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO MY WORST ENEMY! I'm giving it 1 star, but cannot edit from 3.

3 out of 5 stars Over all not bad   June 1, 2008
Up until buying the HP Ipaq, I had always used a palm product. Overall not a bad product. Putting certain types of music downloads from [...] does not work very well. Also getting the email set up is somewhat difficult, especially if you are not that good at setting these thins up. For the most part I would recommend it to others. I got it mainly for work and putting medical software on it and seems to work well.

Item arrived in excellent physical condition and in a timely manner. I had the unit less than one month and experienced recurring problems with it. HP was contacted by telephone regarding the problems several times. The problems could not be rectified over the phone and it was returned for service twice in that time period. Unit still malfunctions. (The problems experienced were the Notes files on the SD card mysteriously losing information and the Windows Media Player displaying the message, "an unexpected error occurred." The media library on the SD card would suddenly cease to exist as well. The library was downloaded 4 times with the problem recurring. HP originally suggested that the problem was with the SD card, however I purchased 4 different SD cards of varying capacities and manufacturers, and the problems still exist.) I spent about 3 1/2 hours in total trying to explain the problems to HP, over the phone, and there has been much frustration in trying to get them to understand. I bought the unit primarily to use for my employment and the records for work in the Notes files are now gone as well as the media files. This has been a very disappointing experience to say the least. I would NOT recommend this product.
