5 out of 5 stars Elegant in it's Simplicity   December 27, 2007

What a neat little gizmo! Just want to take some basic video and share it with family and friends? This product is for you. Camcorders have gotten too feature rich and complicated to use. You just shoot and download and share with Flip. I used it all Christmas day without a hitch. I recommend Lithium batteries for (longer record time) and USB 2.0 (for faster download time). It is also USB powered while downloading, to preserve battery life (it doesn't need to be powered ON to download). Download the firmware updates BEFORE using. (you will be prompted anyway when you attach it for the first time) Oh and simple video editing software will be loaded onto your PC, from the camera, as well. Highly recommended for the erstwhile technophobe.

5 out of 5 stars I'd recommend this in a heartbeat   December 27, 2007

Very easy to use and it does not use up batteries as quickly as I had dreaded. Its small size makes it very portable and it is a breeze to record, download onto my computer and then upload to You Tube. I also really like the custom video features.

No, the video is not as clear as a larger, higher-priced camcorder, but it is good enough for 99% of what I'd like to record.

4 out of 5 stars Flip Ultra camcorder   December 27, 2007

It is a bit tricky to download videos to computer. Seems to take awhile and is also, I've heard, very fragile. However, we are enjoying using it and love the portability and size. The skins and soft pouch accessories do not fit this camera. We had to use an existing camera case of our own to protect it from bumps if it is accidently dropped. Still experimenting with it. So far it is a good value and we hope it lasts a long time. Fun to use.

4 out of 5 stars Flip Ultra Video Cam Review   December 27, 2007

Nice value for the money. Very small size...which will easily fit in a shirt pocket. 2GB on board memory which easily holds 60 minutes of video. All software is included in the 2GB of onboard memory so no software on CDs to load. Only downside is that resolution when using the zoom blurs a little...but video is very clear when not using the zoom. Extremely easy to use.

4 out of 5 stars Flip Ultra vs. RCA Small Wonder   December 27, 2007

I recently purchased both cameras in November. I tried them both indoors and out. Here is my experience. Both cameras are extremely easy to use and upload videos to web sites like Youtube. The Flip Ultra seemed to take better indoor videos due to lower light settings. They are still grainy like the RCA just a tad better. Outdoors both seemed to do fine. After taking about 10 different videos, in different settings with both cameras, I found the Ultra to make a tiny bit better quality video. However, I ended up keeping the RCA because it was ALOT cheaper (Flip was $149 on sale and the RCA was $89 on sale), has the upgradable SD card slot and flip out screen. Keep in mind though that these are not camcorder quality cameras. These are meant to take close distance, well lit subject videos to easily email or upload to Youtube using the built software.
