Great device for the amateur December 30, 2007 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
The whole concept of Flip Video is simplicity. Open the box, drop in the included (regular) batteries, shoot, review, download, done! The camera works great!! If you're looking to become the next Spielberg, or you want to film an 8-hour epic that you plan on boring your family and friends with, this camera is NOT for you. But if you want a fun and easy to use device that fits in your pocket, you'll love this. The video quality is very good and makes great videos in a normally lit room, with no need for one of those spotlights that blind the subject. You also have the option of saving still pictures from your videos, and picture quality is good. Emailing your videos is also easy. There is no software disk or manual needed. Cables are even included so you can watch them on your TV. Even the product registration is simple. All you do is send an email to the company with your particulars and it's done. No surveys and boxes to click and unclick.
I use a MacBook, and I did experience some downloading issues initially. But Flip technical support is superb! I received a response and solution to my problem within hours of sending an email.
I rated this highly because of the simplicity, quality, fun factor and excellent technical support. If this is what you want, get a Flip. If you plan on filming the next Hollywood blockbuster, spend big bucks on another, expensive alternative.
Flip Video Camcorder December 30, 2007 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
We bought this camera for ourselves and loved it so much that we gave one to each of our five daughters and their families. It is so simple to use and play back on the television and our grandkids love seeing themselves on TV. It is a very convenient way to record special family times. The software is simple to load and it is a snap to download the film clips onto your computer. The only negative is that the LCD screen is a bit difficult to see outside if the light is too bright. The newer ultra model has improved this problem a bit.

I was a little wary of this product at first because I thought how could something so small be any good. This product is so simple to operate and took little time to figure out.My only complaint is that the little red button in the middle that you stop and start recording needs to be pressed perfectly. My fingers are too big to press it alone I need a pencil eraser end but it works fine with it.I was able to easily email the video and make a neat movie with background music that looked professional with the included software. This is a really cool gift and I am amazed how small it is.This would be perfect for anyone who is looking to replace their old vhc(tape) bulky camcorder.I applaude Flip Video. It was also givin the green light by Oprah!
Lied to by Flip Video December 29, 2007 25 out of 30 found this review helpful
My Flip stopped working after about an hours use and the batteries started to overheat. Unfortunately, I had some video of my newborn daughter in the camera that I had not yet had a chance to download to my computer. Flip Video said to return the camera and they would repair it and try to recover the videos. Instead, they simply sent me a new camera with a form letter implying it was my repaired camera with wonderful new upgrades. The videos are now lost forever. Had I known they had no intention of recovering the video, I would have brought the camera to the tech guys over at the university to see what they could do with it and probably have purchased a new one 'cause it is kind of a neat little unit. Now I'm stuck with an identical camera with no guarante it won't do the same thing and no video which I considered priceless.
Yes, it is a fun little camera and yes, they replaced the defective camera with an identical one. NO, I will not buy another pure digital product because of their DISHONEST customer service.
UPDATE:
After I wrote this review I received this email:
"We had initially shipped your camcorder to you without your videos, in order for you to use the unit during the holiday. Since your unit would not power on, we had to forward it to our engineering team for video extraction. After much effort, they have been unable to retrieve your videos. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience."
I guess they deserve more than one star. As I said earlier, it is a fun little camera. Just make sure to download any videos you want to keep right away.
Perfect for the technological novice December 29, 2007 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I bought this as a gift for my mom, who is not what you would call a technophile. But she loves to take pictures and videos. She has a digital camera, but was still using an old-school VHS-C video camera. This thing is ridiculously easy to use. It's got minimal buttons, a decent screen, and fairly good quality on the videos it shoots. It also automatically separates the videos you shoot into clips every time you start and stop it. Some people might not like that but it's a huge bonus for the novice when loading video into iMovie. And the best part, there's nothing to lose. It runs on alkaline batteries and the USB connector is built in, so you just plug the whole thing into your computer. In this case a macbook. Like I said, if you're a pro, you're probably not looking at this anyway, but if you're new to digital video or you just want something to mess around with, I don't think you can go wrong here.
