5 out of 5 stars Simply amazing...   December 31, 2007

I'll keep this (somewhat)short and sweet. These things ROCK! You can shoot video and watch it on your TV 5 seconds later. Getting the video to your PC for editing has NEVER been easier. No more playing, capturing, and waiting. It transfers over in no time at all and editing your movie couldn't be easier.

It shoots an hour of video which is just perfect IMO and with the ability to QUICKLY watch what you just shot you can record over bad footage or whatever and easily get the movie you want.

Quality is fantastic for such a small, inexpensive device and they couldn't be priced better. I now prefer this over my $600 Sony video camera.

Buy the Ultra, it's worth the extra little bit of cash. You get a better, higher resolution so the movies look better...

1 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE PRODUCT   December 31, 2007

Because this product was inexpensive and seemed easy to use, I ignored the bad reviews it got. Please don't make the same mistake I made.

From the very first time I tried to download my videos, I received error messages.

The coup de grace came less than 1 week after I purchased the recorder, at my child's birth. This recorder CRASHED at the EXACT MOMENT when the doctor put our new baby on my wife's chest. I could not get it to record at all - then or throughout the next few days.

I cannot tell you HOW DISAPPOINTED I am with this product, and words really can't express what a POORLY MADE, PATHETIC EXCUSE for a video camera this is.

DO NOT IGNORE THE BAD REVIEWS.

4 out of 5 stars Easy to use and very good quality!   December 31, 2007

I bought this for my husband for Christmas. It is SO easy to use and while it only has a short zoom range, it is more than adequate for taking video of Christmas morning, children playing piano and more. Our children are all high school/college age, so this will be great to capture funny, serious and momentous events like summer vacation fun, graduations, recitals and more. Well worth the money!

1 out of 5 stars cool idea, but needs a lot of tweeks   December 31, 2007

I got the 60 minute black model for christmas and used it the first night to record about 5 videos each under a minute long. hooked it up to the computer and uploaded the vidz problem free, i thought it was the coolest thing. the second time i tried to upload vidz there were around 8 of them all ranging from 10 sec to 30 minutes and my laptop was not able to retrieve the clips. so i tried one vid at a time and the same issue, no transfer. i attempted to transfer the videos onto one my friends computers and the same issue occured. the camcorder was able to still play the videos on its own little display but not on any computer. this camcorder seemed like such a cool little invention and a perfect oppurtunity to show the folks back home what iraq is like, but the thing is just useless to me.

3 out of 5 stars Too Expensive For What You Get. Convenient, Clear Picture, but No Image Stabilization & Uploading Probs   December 30, 2007

I received this for Christmas from my wife.
First of all the pluses. As advertised and on several reviews, this is an extremely easy video camera to use. Probably the easiest out there. It is compact enough to fit in your pocket, and the picture is clear with adequate sound. I found it easy to download on to my computer 8 out of 10 times. The other two times, the recording wouldn't download no matter what I tried.

Now for the cons. I was disappointed by the shakey image. I have used several cameras all with steady pictures. I tried to keep my hand steady, but could only get a stable picture when I used my second hand. For me, this really detracted from what I was shooting. The whole time I was watching the video, I was distracted by the instability of the image.

This camera is great for teenagers or adults shooting videos for "You-Tube", but not very good if you want to capture memories. In my opinion, this camera is too expensive for what you get. I also don't like being limited to an internal flash card. If something goes wrong with the card, the camera is shot. I think they really need to look at having an expansion SD card port.

I purchased a Vupoint dv-da1-vp as a replacement. It was the same price, but has several additional features. The video quality is better, and the size is exactly the same as the Flip Ultra. MOST IMPORTANTLY, IT HAS IMAGE STABILIZATION!! The videos of my kids don't make me seasick anymore! The creators of the Flip Ultra should look at this camera and try to duplicate. It has a place for an expansion SD card, an MP3 player, a 5.0 MP camera, a larger viewing screen, built in lens cap, better sound than the flip camera, a voice recorder, and you can record TV or movies on it to be viewed later. This camera is slightly more complicated to work than the Flip Ultra, but only takes about 30 minutes to learn.

Bottom line: If you are looking for simplicity, pick the Flip Ultra. If you are looking for a better quality pocket-sized video camera at the same price, look at the Vupoint dv-da1-vp.
