I'm Flippin'! March 7, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I recently purchased the Flip Video Ultra and what a cool little camera! Took it to Hawaii and got a bunch of neat clips of all the various places, tours and scenic spots we wanted to remember.
I have more expensive video cameras, but for a simple, inexpensive way to capture the moment, this is your ticket! I dig it.

I ordered the Flip a week ago. Since I have received it I have been 100% satisfied. The camera works perfectly, downloads all images to my 4 year old IBM laptop plus a one year old Dell laptop, both using Windows XP, with no problems at all. The camera came with the upgraded software all ready installed so I did not need to do any downloading of the software. In the past week I have probably recorded 5 hours of video and of that four and a half hours have been downloaded to the computers. One added plus, I am still using the original two batteries that came with the camera. Two things I would like to see is that it comes with a rather "cheesy" bag with a draw string, I would rather have a nice case with it. The other thing is there is no lens cover so you need to keep it in the "cheesy" bag to protect it. As for the poor speaker, that doesn't bother me as I download everything to the laptops and the pictures and sound are great from that point on. I would advise anybody to get this camera for the ease of use, simplicity and what I would consider a "B" grade of camera. Don't expect top quality video recording, but for fun, family and quick shots...go for it with this camera. I now carry this with me where ever I go.
A VERY HANDY LITTLE ITEM March 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this after doing lots of research, studying the other brand that has the memory card capabilities. The reason I decided on the FLIP is because of its ease of use and relative uncomplicated-ness. Of course, it is not the most high end video camera, but it is a handy little item to have on you. It will allow you to be prepared for those 'unexpected' moments that you want to capture. Fits handily in a purse or pocket. I found that the video quality was good, the sound could be better, but for the price it is really okay. I have had absolutely NO problems with mine right from the box. I was pleased with the way the videos could be uploaded to YouTube and also emailed to friends. This was the main reason I wanted the FLIP; being able to share videos with no muss or fuss was essential.
As far as battery use goes it has worked well, allowing me to make a large number of videos before needing to re-battery. Just make sure to keep a few batteries on you to be prepared.
All in all, I have no complaints about this camera. You won't go wrong if you buy it. I might suggest that you get the USB extension though, because the only thing that worries me is the flimsiness of the USB arm when trying to connect it to the computer.
not that good March 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Camera would shut down by itself after 4 seconds of recording. Somtimes it would not even turn on. I bought the camera for a specific event and even paid extra shipping to get it delivered on time. What a waste of time and money. After being unable to record the event and becoming frustrated, I send the camera back to Amazon. I guess you get what you pay.
WAIT Don't buy it yet March 1, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
The flip ultra takes the videos just fine but transferring them to your pc is a nightmare. I checked some consumer sites and I am not the only person having this trouble. Even more ominous is the flip video site is down. The update listed here is therefore unable to be uploaded, rendering the camcorder useless. Hold off buying this until flip gets its act together
