Overbuilt resource hog - AVOID THIS PRODUCT August 17, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This program is enormous, and a terrible resource hog (strike one).
In addition, it modifies the computer's behavior, automatically setting itself to run various components at start-up (strike two), not to mention installing a "user account" (strike three).
When I inquired of their tech support why it requires its own user account, I got nothing but double-talk.
I do NOT like programs that tamper with my computer's settings and behavior. That is bad, bad business.
A complete waste of money.
Roxio has the best suite, bar none August 17, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I thought I'd try to save some money by gettin a bunch of new apps, lots of shareware types, even free ones. Unless you are a super tech guru I won't go down that path again. Each program had some quirks and targeted a few tasks. Who knows what's coming and when it comes you must find more programs to deal with it. It was better for me to stick to the roxio line and be assured of the quality and coverage. Media formats got difficult when I ran into people who didn't have certain media players, or I wanted them to run on the internet. So far there is no format I've used that easy media doesn't support. I play them, edit, and convert. Photos, music, video and the like. I can make flv files and the old standbys of mpeg and avi. My vacation photos are much better using various photosuite actions. I just went to Yosemite and have a lot of side-by-side pics. I can merge them with the panoramic tool. I could go on and on about the great tools. I'll stick to media suites and save the headache of gathering a lot of unrelated programs.
I give up August 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had Roxio Suite 8 and Roxio Suite 9. I wouldn't think of buying 10. Many bugs. Tech Support used to be free. No reply to my latest problem but I noticed they will respond for $$. Buggy. Different programs don't play well together.
Poster child for software testing August 11, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is one of the most disappointing pieces of software I've used. This package combines a number of different functionalities into one so read the reviews carefull to rate your experience for what you want to do. I bought this specifically for it's ability to easily convert video and audio from one format to another. The application included to do this conversion does not work at all. I've tried multiple PCs with multiple OSs (XP and Vista) and the ONLY thing I can get to function even part of the time is the sidebar application in Vista. All of my conversations with technical support have been fruitless. I've sent them detailed repro steps for the problems and even the windows crash dumps but their responses have been completely useless and it's as if they have never seen a crash dump.
This leads me to believe that this was also a poorly designed application. If you have an application and a sidebar tool that do the same thing, a good design would have them use the same code to do that task. Since the sidebar application runs most of the time and the regular application crashes every single time, I'm forced to believe that they don't share code. This requires the software testers to try everything TWICE, doubleing time time to test.
My experience has been so poor with this product and with technical support that I will be very very cautious before buying anything from Roxio ever again.
Very disappointed August 6, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I rarely give feedback or write reviews about products that are poor. I usually just move and try another. This one, which I purchased, has given me such a headache that I had to come here and write one; I had hoped it would address and resolve the problems plagued in version 9.
I have previously used version 9, which had plenty of similar problems to version 10. Version 10 adds and multiplies the problems. It is now packaged like many like all those over-bloated all in one burning/editing suites out there in the market. It is impressive on how much it can do, but cannot deliver. Burning DVDs, compiling databases, creating slideshows, etc ..... all seem so slow. Basic tasks of deleting or adding photos to a compilation craws. Inconsistent burning or encoding. I can't tell you the hours of production wasted bcoz of sudden unexplained crashes, or unsuccessful save projects, unable to be loaded. In addition, the software packages are a memory/resource hog. It is uable to flush out the files upon closing and moving to another Roxio application.
However, in the rare instances, if the project is successful, the quality is excellent. But it is rare. Hence, the 2/5 stars. Ultimately, this is an over ambitious suite with too many unpredictable, unstable applications.
