Absolutely unusable for HD video June 12, 2008 What a disappointment!! I have a Canon HG10 camcorder that records video in AVCHD. Pinnacle claims that the software can handle AVCHD content with the following system requirements:
Processor: Intel 2 Core Quad 2.66 GHz Memory: 2GB Video: ATI Radeon 9600+ or NVIDIA GeForce 6
These specs are the recommended, not the minimum, requirements for editing AVCHD video. These specs were all met or exceeded by my system, yet Pinnacle just chokes on the HD video. While my PC can easily play AVCHD video other programs, Studio Ultimate simply freezes after 2 seconds of video while the audio continues (and I am just watching the video in their viewer, not even attempting to edit the video). If I cannot even preview my video I will have no idea how sound effects/soundtracks line up with the video, how transitions look, etc. Completely useless.
I contacted customer support, all their suggested fixes were not helpful at all. If you have an HD camcorder I would not use this product. Perhaps the product will work if your PC far, far exceeds their recommendations, but it sure doesn't work with a system that meets all their recommendations.
The only thing worse than the software is their service June 5, 2008 I bought this from a local retailer who has a "no returns on open software" policy. I can't even get it to install properly and now that it is open, of course, I can't return it. Tried calling Pinnacle's "customer service" line. Was on hold twice for more than 30 minutes each time. The people on the phone were very hard to understand and they knew nothing about the product, I mean absolutely nothing. I would have been better off asking my dog for help. Then I tried the live online chat help section on the website. The password they set up for me didn't work. Another 15 minute phone call to fix that, then I logged on to the chat line successfully. A guy started text-talking to me and after about 30 seconds, he paused and never came back. Beware of this product. If you need support, you are on your own.
I wish Amazon would allow a zero stars rating because that's what this software deserves.
Terrible product! May 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased from best buy to edit HD video. The product has never worked. I have been on hold for over two days speaking with computer techs who do not speak English very well. I have tried all of their solutions and still cannot get the program to work. I have been editing video for 5 years. I cannot get a refund so I am trying to prevent you from repeating my mistake. Avoid this program and this company! The prior versions may have been okay, but studio 11 should never have been released with all the internal software issues.
Pinnacle Studio 11 Ultimate - Excellent May 21, 2008 When you need to edit AVCHD (Sony HiDef) you have 2 products: Pinnacle Studio 11 or Vegas Pro. First, Pinnacle is far less expensive. The learning curves on both, even for someone already used to steep learning curves is, well, an incline to be sure. However, it is a great product to learn with, and be SURE to get your computer up to speed: Dual or Quad processors, and all the Ram you're computer can handle. A good video card will help also.
Studio 11 Ultimate Impossible! May 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Pinnacle Studio 11 Ultimate - What a horrible product! I have been successfully working with video for 5 years. I had Studio 8, which was satisfactory. I got a new system with lots of space and power. I run Windows XP Professional. I have spent the last 7 days trying to get this thing to render. No luck. I uninstalled, reinstalled, loaded every patch known to humanity. I rendered without even breathing. I rendered in most all formats. The last 30% of any slideshow refuses to render. Period. Support is a repetitive, cruel, circular trip to Hades. If someone paid me I would never use Pinnacle again. I am cutting my losses, and mailing the thing gratis back to the company with my opinion...not that they will ever find someone to actually read it.
