Studio Ultimate is over the top July 27, 2007 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
I have been using earlier versions of Pinnacle Studio doing video editing and DVD production. It was not without some difficult spots along the way. BUT, Ultimate Version 11 is knock your socks off improved. I have been using it for 2 months now and find no faults. On the contrary. It purrs. There are so many improvements and added features that I am not going to even try to list them. I shoot mini-dv with two Sony DCR VX-2100. That gives me great footage. At end of day, I use Ultimate to capture onto an external drive and I can start editing. I do voice over live at the edit and the program's new voice over feature works very well and it is easy to equalize with the camera audio. Here is a neat thing: I have recorded "room sound" in the shop and lay it down on the 2nd audio track. I then mix it with the voice over which is "too clean". So many things like this can be done in Studio Ultimate. I have been video producer for 27 years and for the first 20 used NYC video studios. They could do anything but for $600 plus an hour. It is nice to be able to do it all and better (DV digital) at very low cost. If the price is so low that it is a turn off -- beware. Studio Ultimate can do most everything the more expensive programs can do. One suggestion: increase your rom memory to 2 meg or more if you can. The editing will go faster.
I like how Studio has improved since version 7 July 18, 2007 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
I had used Studio 7 a number of years ago before switching to Roxio Videowave because of a deal on that software that promised to make DVD's easily. For those of you who have had troubles on Studio 11, try using Roxio instead and you will come running back to Studio 11. (Microsoft and Ulead products are ever more dismal) I upgraded when I bought a HD camcorder and can't believe I stuck it out with Roxio's worthless software for so long.
Studio 11 Ultimate comes with far more content than I need so the complaints about having to purchase more fall on deaf ears here. For a home based person looking to make quality family video's, this is the best video editing software you can buy for a decent price.
GPU test, before you buy Pinnacle Studio 11 ULTIMATE July 8, 2007 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
I find little difference between Studio 10 and Studio 11. The few improvements I noticed so far, are not worth the price. To be fair I have only used the program for 3 weeks and may possibly find other improvements in the future. The reason for writing this post is to warn everyone not buy Studio 11 Ultimate unless your computer's graphic card is able to handle VitaScene. This program was the main reason for my purchase of Studio 11 Ultimate . Before you buy perform a GPU test at www.prodad.com to see if your graphic card is ready for VitaScene. In order to upgrade your graphics card your computer must have a PCI Express slot. I have not been able to find PCI graphics cards that can handle VitaScene. If anyone knows where to find one that can, let me know. Thank you
BEWARE before uploading your videos July 5, 2007 64 out of 67 found this review helpful
I have been a studio user since version 9. I have upgraded each time and have continually been searching for one of the programs that will convert my video for use with Flash. Magix I tried (see my review there). When Studio 11 touted it would convert to Flash, I was happy. I promptly ordered. Initially, I could not even make a video. It would lock up on the rendering process. They recently released an upgrade (if you purchase, ensure you download all the upgrades before trying to use) which finally allowed me to complete a video. When I went to save my movie as a Flash file, I found, once again, that you have to upload it to a website. Pinnacle offers such a site "free of charge." However, READ THE FINE PRINT before you join. If you upload videos to their website you are granting them free, unrestricted use of your video without compensation to you. If you don't mind that they may use a family reunion video in something they do, etc, then knock yourself out. However, by law anyone who creates something owns it. If I shoot a video of my pets and then edit it with titles, etc, it is my intellectual property. Nobody is allowed to take my work and claim it as their own or use it for their purposes without my permission. To get that permission, you may need to pay a fee. Pinnacle is offering you a place to post your videos online as compensation I guess. If you sign up for an account, you are granting them use of your property and work with no further contact from you. You don't even get to state if you accept the manner in which they intend to use it. I opted to decline that even though I am still searching for a way to convert to flash files. Guess I will have to learn how to use flash. As far as other aspects of editing, it works fantastically. Unfortunately, if you are upgrading from Studio 10 and earlier and have purchased SmartSounds tracks, they won't work in Studio 11. You will lose access to all of those audio enhancements with the upgrade. This was not mentioned in the upgrading either. They do mention an audio track component but DO NOT state that SmartSound no longer is usable. The three star rating would be higher except they don't state up front that the only way to convert to Flash is by uploading to a website and don't say that SmartSound is no longer used and not compatible. I have purchased over 20 discs from SmartSound and now they are useless and ended up being a waste of money with the upgrade. Scorefitter is the new audio track software integrated with Studio and the selection is pathetically small with no upgrades available. Also, if you are not familiar with Studio, bear in mind a limited menu and such are available with the program you purchase. Additional menus, etc are available for extra money and can cost several hundred dollars more the get them all if you wish for a variety.
OK Product with horrible Customer Support - but usable if enough time and money is invested July 3, 2007 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 11 3 days ago.
This is basically StudioPlus with Third-Party products SoundSoap and ProDAD as Plug-ins, plus a cloth that can be used as a "Green Screen" for Chroma effects.
Install was OK the first time around. ProDAD claims it won't work with my NVIDIA QUADRO 110. SoundSoap didn't work with their latest patch (11.1).
After wasting 5 hours on repeated calls with Pinnacle "Tech Support" (if you want to call it that), I finally gave up and went to BIAS, Inc - makers of SoundSoap. They fixed the problem in 30 minutes with a re-authorization key for SoundSoap.
The product is usable, with many sophisticated features. However, Pinnacle wants to nickel-and-dime the user every step of the way for certain effects and add-ons, which have to be purchased separately.
The product would be much improved with readily-available, friendly Customer support. This support is completely lacking from Pinnacle. It takes usually 30 minutes to get someone on the phone. Whoever answers seems to have been cultured to interact with a curious mixture of condecension and incompetence. On one occasion, I was put on hold, only to never be picked up again - a classic method for "resolving" calls without lifting a finger.
If I could, I would have returned the software by now. But since I can't, I'll stick it out and make it work.
