Pinnacle Studio 11 August 31, 2007 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
The good: Excellent User Interface, Lots of easy to use but useful features.
The bad: Needs a newer computer for the computing power.
The Review: I have been a user of Pinnacle Studio for several years. Version 10 had several issues when it first came out. I have had no problems with version 11. The first thing I did was to install the 11.1 patch from Pinnacle after I installed the CD.
I have used several other videos software (Adobe, Ulead, Movie Maker for example). I like Studio the most. The user interface is very intuitive, easy, and still powerful. I was easily able to make movies with fancy effects and transitions without any video editing experience. I learn the more advance features as I went on. Studio has an automatic music video/slide show generator based on different themes. I often use it to generate slide shows.
One of the things I really like is the HiFi Music Generation. It will add music based on your choice of styles. The duration can be any length but sounds like it was made for the length you specified. Versions previous to 11 had a different third party music generator, but had the same user interface. I found on Pinnacle Knowledge Base that I can also install the older music generation from the Studio 10 CD. This gives me double the music styles I can use. I'm sure you can buy more music styles if you want.
Studio also comes with several DVD menus but also comes with a good menu/title editor so you can make your own. I usually start with one of the standard menus, and then edit it to my liking.
Studio 11 has a one click upload to Yahoo video. I mostly use studio to make DVDs but I plan to make travel videos for youtube.com. They will be at [...] if you are interested.
A word of warning, you need a newer computer. I'm using a cheap but new Acer laptop 5100-5674. It has an AMD dual TK-53 1.7 mhz processor. It came with 1 gig of memory but I upgraded it to 2 gig. Studio 11 runs a lot faster with 2 gigs of memory. I also increase the memory page size.
Most laptop's graphic processors use shared memory with the CPU. You will be unable to do AVCHD videos with Studio 11 unless you have a graphic processor which has its own memory. The better the graphic processor, the faster Studio will run.
I also run Studio without other software running at the same time. For example, I disable Vista's Gadgets and reboot the computer before I start Studio.
Works great! August 31, 2007 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Does a great job and is reasonably fast on my 2.8GHZ P4 with 1GB RAM. Has the best menu editor I've tried and the video editing capabilities are at least as good as anything else I've tried. I particularly like the ease of interfacing the video with the menu.
A waste of money and time August 24, 2007 17 out of 20 found this review helpful
This is the third release of Studio starting with 8, 9 Plus and now 11 unlimite. I am giving up after 2 month of wasted time spent on the phone with tech support and rendering DVD's that don't play. Its simple, the product does not do what its advertising it can do. There are always dropped frames and the sound gets out of sync with the video on all of the DVDs I've made. After tech support was done with its wasted troubleshooting steps I had to reinstall XP. There are too many other video editing software titles out there with better ratings then to waist your money on this one. Don't let the advertising fool you. After all this trouble I purchased Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 for less money and I've had no problems with it at all. Be sure you have backed up everything on your pc before you install this product and work with the support team because if you loose it all like I did, you will only spend many more hours trying get your pc back to the way it was before you tried Studio 11 Ultimate.
Works great except..... August 24, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased Pinnacle Studio Ultimate Version 11 primarily for converting VHS tapes to DVD. With the USB Dazzle Capture Adapter which came with the Ultimate Version 11, the program would lock up every time. I read some forum responses to the product and most agreed that USB sucks when it comes to video capture. I purchased an ATI capture card and the program works as advertised. I have yet had a problem converting a VHS tape with my ATI PCI capture card.
Video editing is FUN again August 23, 2007 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
Video editing - what a great hobby!
After suffering through some versions of questionable quality, I am once again a happy Studio user.
Pinnacle really got their act together and Studio 11 had earned a very good reputation among the user base.
Studio has a great set of features and capabilities joined with one of the easiest-to-use user interfaces in the industry.
Studio 11 provides native support for the new AVCHD format, which is becoming more popular with some HiDef camcorders.
If you are going to buy Studio, go for the "Ultimate" version. Even if you are a beginner, you will soon grow into it and will want those features eventually.
The end result will still be driven by your artistic eye (or lack thereof) but Studio will allow you to do nearly anything you need, at a fraction of the price of some "professional" tools.
