1 out of 5 stars Pinnacle Studio Ultimate Ver 11 is a poor product.   December 15, 2007

Most of the features as advertised failed to work. Customer support is slow to respond by e-mail, no phone support is available. Product is a nightmare to use. I would not recommend this product.

1 out of 5 stars Not good for AVCHD files   November 30, 2007

Pinnacle does not offer a trial version so I bought this product on the assumption that it would work with AVCHD files... and it does... but the rendered output is absolutely awful in any format that will play on my computer or standard DVD player. I did not test HDDVD or BlueRay since I don't have one of those players. The quality is much worse than the DVD output the free software Sony includes with their cameras. My advice is don't buy this if you want it for AVCHD. You will not like the output and since it's software you can't return it. Take a look at Sony Vegas instead. It costs about the same and you can download a trial version (30 days, fully functional)to be sure.

1 out of 5 stars Don't Buy OR "Downgrade" to Studio 11   November 19, 2007

I have been an occasional user of Pinnacle products for several years - with my last version being "9". It crashed and locked up frequently - a problem that I understand got worse with version 10. I read all kinds of hype about Ver 11 - all of the features, better stability, etc. Well, folks - "it ain't true" from my experiences! I would NEVER recommend this product to anyone. I have a decent computer system, yet Studio Ver 11 has locked up on me probably a dozen times. Each time, I get the insulting window asking me to describe what I was doing when things went south. Fine! How about some RESOLUTION to those issues. I am also fed up with the sales pitches that are planted everywhere in both the manual and the software for "upgrading" to additional titles, features, etc. And just think - I was dumb enough to buy the "Ultimate" edition thinking it would have lots of available titles and features. There actually seems to be fewer titles than I had in the previous version of this software! Good bye to Pinnacle and Avid!

4 out of 5 stars Greatly improved   November 17, 2007

I've owned two previous versions of Studio, including version 9. All of them have been unstable and have crashed either while editing or when rendering. This version 11 seems to have solved the problems. I have produced a 35 minute video including rendering to DVD without a single crash. A confusion factor is that when installed, it indicates you have Studio Plus rather than Studio Ultimate. I have not used it yet for a HD project.

1 out of 5 stars Garbage and rip-off   November 15, 2007

History: I purchased pinnacle studio 10.5 and managed to throw together a 20-minute video for my video gaming network. It was a frustrating experience, but after spending 2 months sifting through the crashes and the re-installs, I managed to do it.

Current purchase: I'm using windows XP with a duo core processor and 4 GB of ram. I use an NVIDIA graphics card with latest drivers. When studio ultimate 11 was released and Pinnacle advertised multiple engine updates, I hopped on it. I started working with the program to throw together another gaming video almost immediately. Each time you add a clip, the program takes a minimum of 2 minutes while it loads the clip. Each time you add an effect to a clip, it takes around 5 minutes per 30 seconds of clip to finish loading. If your video is over 10 minutes long with multiple clips, you won't be able to edit anything else until all effects has finished loading. I was particularly upset because I spent over $400, after purchase, activating the many different Pinnacle-brand effect and transition packages.

Once I started adding more clips to my video, my program started crashing, locking up, and giving me several windows XP errors. I wrote to pinnacle customer support on 5 occasions and still have not received a response (it has been 4 months). I've had to stop using the program entirely, and in fact I have had to move to Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8.0.

In other words, Pinnacle now has $1000 of my cash, based entirely on believing their advertising. All I have to show for it is the discs on my shelf which are now gathering dust. They offer no technical support, their program is rife with bugs, and does not perform as advertised.

I am a clinical psychologist, I don't work for any A/V company. After scouting around on the net, I found Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8.0. This program immediately renders clips, immediately applies effects, and offers a much more stable program. Sony Vegas 8.0 does not have as many built-in effects as Pinnacle, although if you purchase a third-party effect plug-in package like Boris FX, you end up spending $500 less than if you had 'activated' all of Pinnacle effects.

My advice is to stay away from Pinnacle products. You will regret your decision to buy this product, and you will left feeling swindled. Do not buy the hype, do not get seduced into the 'discounts' or the "free training DVD" (btw this doesn't work in any DVD player, you can only play it on your computer, but not while you are using Pinnacle studio).
