Good but something broke 10 months later December 15, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought this last March 2007 and it's now December 2007. Great camera compared to my old Nikon mostly because of the IS feature. It's easy to handle and a no-brainer camera. Unfortunately one of the battery connectors inside broke recently and it's in Canon Service Center right now. Good customer service though since I wanted the battery connector replaced but it would take 2-3 weeks to order the part. They soldered the broken part temporarily and I can use it for now. They will call me when the part arrives so that I can return the unit again to have a more permanent solution.
Canon Powershot A710 IS December 3, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have owned this camera for about 8 months and would recommend it to anyone. It has tons of great features for those advanced users, but is still really easy to use for those at the beginner level. It takes great pictures in all sorts of light. My only quibble is with the flash recycle time. I think it is definitely on the slow side. I love the fact that it takes AA batteries. I bought set of four rechargeable batteries and charger ($35) and always have a fresh set ready to go. Best of all, in a pinch, you can find AA batteries at any convenience store. Overall, I am really pleased with the quality of this product. I think this is a great camera for all-around use.
Good little digital camera November 28, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I own and use a Canon A710IS and would not hesitate to recommend this camera. I use the camera for low light club photography - rarely if ever use the flash. Initially I thought the camera was a battery hog but after replacing the Sony NiMH batteries that I purchased with the camera, my battery life problems ended. If you are not comfortable with terms like ISO, shutter speed, aperture , etc just put the camera in AUTO mode and point and shoot - the camera will do the thinking for you. If you are comfortable with classic manual photography just about everything is adjustable. With the builtin image stabilization, and 35-210mm equiv lens and manual mode there is little you can't do successfully with this camera. Except under the worst lighting condition, there is virturally no shutter lag.
Cons: The builtin lens cover blades stuck in the open position. Also, if you are using manual mode and the camera goes into sleep mode due to inactivity and then you press the shutter it will wake up and take the photo BUT some of the manual settings you setup are reverted to defaults - this is a real PITA when you are using manual focus and waiting for a shot that you have prefocused only to have the camera discard your prefocus when the anticipated action finally occurs and you press the shutter. As with any digital camera the top ISO speed (ASA 800 for the A710) is noisy.
Suggestions: Buy at least a 2gb flash card - the included 16mb card is too small to be useful.
Great Product November 25, 2007 This Camera take great picture's and has a good screen I would recommended it to any one. are simple and easy to use and has a simple display.
Excellent picture quality, but difficult to get closeups November 8, 2007 Takes great pictures when it's in focus, but for short-range pictures the focus is wacky because it can't make up its mind what to focus on. It seems to have no option for center-focus priority. I wish it had manual focus, but I guess that's asking too much.
