"Cute," functional, worth having. August 1, 2008 There's nothing really high-tech about this, yet it can be used with very high-tech equipment to do what is so frequently needed - hold it in place. Instructions could be a bit more clear, but if you take your time with them and look carefully at the device, it will become apparent how to change bases for various situations, etc. Would this be appropriate in a fancy limo? Probably not. It's not sophisticated looking at all. But it's highly functional, NOT unattractive, and an inexpensive way to take care of a lot of functions that often we end up buying single-function items for. This has a screw-in camera base so it can be used as a mini-tripod, and can also hold all sorts of other devices in and out of a vehicle. Very functional.
I use 4 stars for very good products, and simply reserve my use of 5 stars for the very best. The 4 star rating on this is in no way an indication it's not a desirable and functional product.
It looks like this product will probably be sturdy enough to hold up for quite a while. The only possible issue I see with it is I don't yet know how long the vacuum base will hold a cell phone (or whatever else is placed in it), and there's no way to know how long the adhesive base will last with high heat/cold in a vehicle (there are multiple ways to attach this to the vehicle - a permanent base with adhesive, and a suction base for transferring to another vehicle temporarily - just detach it from the base and swap). But I suspect the adhesive could be replaced relatively easily even if it does dry out or lose adhesion over time.
Great Little Tripod July 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This a very handy little tri-pod. I use it to hold my GPS unit in my car, and keep it in my camera bag for quick photos.
The legs are very bendy and adjustable, you can actually wrap a leg around your rear view mirror and hang your GPS or ipod below the mirror in your car without having to use a windshield or dash mount.
It is also small enough that it doesnt take up much room in a camera bag or purse if you dont want to haul around a 'real' tripod.
I didnt think I would like this item much, but now that I have it use it quite a bit. All of the extra mounting attachments really come in handy for different types of items.
Highly recomend this item.
Everything you need July 30, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This seems to be everything you need for your DSLR. It takes some getting used to, in bending it to where you want it. You have to make sure you are level and getting what you want out of your shot.
Great Device! Everyone Could Use One... But, Which One? July 29, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Joby GP1-M1EN Gorillapod is a great little device for holding small cameras, iPods, etc. I've used mine for a couple of days and found it to do everything it said it would do and more. You can attach something to it via a camera screw (11.5 oz. limit), adhesive clip (two provided with a limit of 10.6 oz.) or a suction cup (7.1 oz. limit)
The GP1-M1EN is the smaller of several Gorillapods, and it being the smallest is probably its only drawback. Its bigger brothers can handle a greater weight: the Joby GP2-00EN Joby GP2-00EN Gorillapod Flexible Tripod for Digital SLR Camerascan handle a camera up to 1.75 lbs; and the Joby GP3-01EN Joby GP3-01EN Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Tripod for Digital SLR Cameras can handle cameras and camcorders up to 6.6 lbs.
I have posted a "customer image" showing the GP1-M1EN with a light digital camera attached to a post holding up the banister on our stairs. It stayed there for hours before I took it down.
As a photographer, would I get one of these? Without hesitation! Especially if you have a lightweight camera. I cannot think of the times when I have been traveling and, through necessity, used a car or some books to balance my camera while taking a self-timed picture. With a Gorillapod, I will not have to worry about the camera falling, or tilting, or even having to settle for an image that is slightly-off because of the angle of the object I had the camera resting on.
I have a Canon 10S and 20D, so I am going to get a GP3-01EN. However, the GP1-M1EN will be used extensively because I have attached a wireless security camera to it that allows me to move the security camera easily around our home.
Not for all DSLRs July 28, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love the product, I've used them before. But this one may be a bit misleading. I recently bought this to use with my D80 but my camera seems to be too heavy for it. I'm unsure if it's just a bad batch of this model or what, but you may want to go for the next model up, that is supposed to hold up to DSLR's with zoom lenses.
