Wonderful for small item shots! August 11, 2008 This was purchased to help me get photos of small items for an online catalog. It is just what I needed! Everyone who sees it wants one!
Gorillapod Go-Go Pack: tripod great but accessories bad August 10, 2008 The quality of the tripod is what I expected but the accessories that make up this so-called Go-Go Pack are really a waste of money (considering it's ~$8 extra compared to a ~$22 standalone tripod at the time). The suction cup requires a very smooth surface to work (as anticipated) but leaves a mark on non-metallic surfaces that seems tough to clean after a while. The two adhesive clips are for permanent hold, which I couldn't find any candidate devices or situations for such use. The low rating here is for the go-go pack; for the tripod itself it would be a four stars.
Cute but not terribly useful August 8, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an OK item but it really is too flimsy to be much good, it's more of a toy than anything else. It's not bad and it has not broken it just can only do so much.
Pretty Handy Little Jobber August 6, 2008 If you need a flexible tripod with the ability to attach to devices without the standard tripod screw connection, this is your tool. I have not experimented with the sticky attachment, but both the standard camera attachment and the suction cup work great. Also, the tripod is amazingly stable, no matter how you position the legs. Highly recommended.
Cute but not functional August 4, 2008 I'm blown away by how many 5-star reviews the gorillapod got. I have been using it for about a month, and have been extremely disappointed.
First, I should point out that I'm using the SLR model for my Canon A620 point and shoot, simply because it's just a smidgen over the weight limit for the smaller gorillapod. This means that the camera I am using is at the bottom of the weight range for this model, and should have no problems. Unfortunately, that's not the case. This item simply isn't sturdy enough, no matter what configuration it is in. Even the most gentle pressure on the shutter release of wither of my two camera models (I also tried using it with a small digital SLR) moves the tripod and blurs the picture. As a result, any time I use it, I have to take many shots of the same scene and then pick the least blurry one to keep. And for this reason, you can forget using it on anything but the hardest of surfaces... on dirt or grass, its lack of weight works against it, allowing it to move and blur photos.
The one thing for which I WOULD recommend it is for use with the video camera setting on your device. It completely eliminates "hand shake," and because you aren't touching it while it's filming, there's no (or negligible) blur.
But all in all, a disappointment.
