4 out of 5 stars Worth it for manual focusing...   February 23, 2008

I like to use manual focus on my E-500 a lot, and purchased this for that reason. With the recent addition of a Lensbaby to my camera bag, I'm really glad I have this, since every bit helps when using one. The magnification isn't HUGE with this eyepiece, but I have the benefit of having a friend with the same camera, and when you compare directly between the stock eyecup and this one, you can see the difference. Not for everyone, but if you want a little boost for using manual focus, I highly recommend this.

5 out of 5 stars cheap fix that works   January 27, 2008
Cheap fix that works very well. Viewfinder is limited, this small magnifier makes it easier to use the Evolt 500. Makes it easier to sight and frame pictures and read the information in the viewer. A cheap fix that actually works.

4 out of 5 stars Very good but not perfect   October 5, 2007

I use this on my Canon 300D (Digital Rebel), and it really helps to get rid off that camera viewfinder's "tiny stamp at the end of a tunnel" appearance. When you directly compare the viewfinder images with and without this magnifier, you may find it hard to notice the 20% difference consciously, which I guess is the reason why some people here claim that there is no improvement. However, for me, the effect is clearly noticable and positive. For example, it helps me to see whether the camera is hold straight, something that I somehow find particularly difficult with the 300D.

But I also have some complaints:
- Not really usable with glasses, because the eye is then too far away to see the whole image (this may be dependent on the original size of the viewfinder image).
- High price tag for such a simple and static 2-lens setup (but still better than shelling out hundreds of Euros for a better camera whose other features I don't really need).
- The inclusion of a viewfinder curtain would have been really nice (especially at the price...).
- The magnification could still be larger.

But on the bottom line, this is the only real option you have for viewfinder magnification if you want to see the full frame, as opposed to just the center portion as can be had with some other magnifiers.

4 out of 5 stars An essential accessory for the e-volt 500 series   September 7, 2007

This unit just magnifies enough to make the e-volt 500 usable with manual focus OM lenses. It would be 5 stars with a bit more magnification. It just works fine - it could have been great. Oh well.

3 out of 5 stars Limited Benefit   August 31, 2007

The magnification difference on a Canon 20D is really pretty subtle. The quality of the glass magnifier is high and doesn't degrade or darken the view, but it really doesn't do a whole lot.
