Love it! June 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As an award-winning wedding photographer ([...]), I use f:2.8 lenses constantly. I was hesistant to use a f:3.5-5.6 lens but I don't regret I did. This lens is fabulous. In fact it has become my all-time favorite in many regards. Emmanuel
All In One Lens BENCHMARK May 31, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you are looking for an all in one lens, this is it. For my D50, I previously had the 18-70mm and finally realized I need something that had more of a zoom range. However, the last thing I wanted to do was buy another lens like the 70-300mm and have to switch them back and forth. Problem Solved: Nikon 18-200mm VR
You can read and read all you want about this lens, but until you experience it first hand will you see how it is the most practical lens around. Oh, and the VR....incredible! Some may argue you are better off have 2 or even 3 lenses depending on your occasion, but with the 18-200mm VR, you have everything you need. Oh, and the VR...did I say incredible. Try it once is all I needed to realize I will never own another lens without VR.
Sure you can buy cheaper lenses and some may say the VR really isn't necessary, but you get what you pay for. For travel or everyday use, I will never miss a shot having to worry about, oh, I need to first change my lens cause all you have to do is adjust the zoom, and shoot.
As for the VR, just so you don't have to think about it, just leave it set to ON. ACTIVE setting when on a moving vehicle and taking pictures, otherwise keep it on NORMAL. One more thing, when shooting sports or action shots, keep the VR turned off.
Best available but could be improved...a lot! May 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was the first lens I bought after buying the Nikon D80 with 18-135mm kit. It is hard to beat this lens for convenience since it covers so much distance. There are a lot of better glass that could be bought for a lot more money, but carrying two or three lenses is not fun for an novice like myself.
Likes: -18-200mm focal length. -Less sensor dust because you don't have to remove it much. -Takes sharp enough pictures that non-pro photographers will think you are a pro. -Price considering the cost of buying two or three lenses. -Vibration Reduction.
Dislike: -Lens creep. -Not as fast or sharp in low light situations.
Bottom line: -Until Nikon or some other company comes out with a 10-200mm f2.8, this is the best carry-around lens. It's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but it can cut through most everything. I'm sure in the hands of a pro photographer this lens could be the best.

To start off I'm only an amature photograhper but have quite the talent to go further I've been told. This lens would make it a lot easier to do so I must say. It's a great all around lens to do just about anything you could ask for.Great indoors, sunny, shady and night time shots are easily achieved with it.Great contrast and sharpness throughout and the colors are rich and to the point.I use a D80 and am very happy with all my results taking at least 1000 photo's with the lens. Well worth the money spent and would like to thank Nikon for it's efforts. Also lens creep has been resolved at least with mine as there isn't any. I will give it a five star rating just because it is my favorite!
It does everything well May 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I guess prior reviews have already discussed everything there is to discuss. Let's keep it simple. I use this lens 90% of the time now instead of the F2.8 lens I have. This is the travel lens and does a good job at that. However, the lens barrel creeps when points to the ground. That is a really disappointing being a Nikon Product. Other than that, everything is fine.
