must have for all nikonians March 30, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
after getting over the learning curve associated with external flash added with natural light.. i am pleased to say that this flash has saved me many times in poor lighted situations. i love the way it pivots completely around to bounce behind you, and i love that you have complete control over your exposure even when using the flash. i am highly pleased wit this product.
excellent flash March 29, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
the best flash for Nikon digital SLR! never tried anything better than this
perfect external flash for my Nikon D70s March 21, 2007 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
As an amateur photographer, this external flash does wonders for my Nikon D70s. The pictures I take under the sunlight as well as indoors shows more clarity on the subject. No more dark shades over the face or shadows behind the subject. There are more features on the flash that i am still exploring. So having this sb800 and some good battery or power pack. Your good to go.
Solidly built and very accurate! March 20, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this flash to replace my aging Nikon SB-28DX speedlight which does not work well with my new Nikon D200 body. The SB-800 works very well with the D200, is solidly built and exposures are pretty much right on the money. I considered purchasing the SB-600 to save some cash but with the addition of the extra battery holder to decrease recycle times, the soft dome and filter kit as well as having a good deal more power, the SB-800 was a no brainer. I keep the extra battery attached to the side of the unit. Yes it adds bulk and weight and looks strange but faster recycle times are a very good thing. I am a photojournalist and most of the time I shoot without flash. In fact, I sometimes go two months or more without even taking the flash out of the bag. When I do need to use it, what I really want is simple and reliable operation. I get both with this flash. I will probably never use all of its features, but I appreciate the dedicated performance to my digital camera.
The best of the best... March 18, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you own a Nikon Digital SLR, then there is almost no question that you should buy this speedlight if you are seeking professional level auxiliary lighting. In conjunction with Nikon's Creative Lighting System, the SB800 cannot be rivaled for the quality of it's lighting exposures, automation, and the creative lattitude it gives the photographer without extensive trial and error or the need for flash meters, etc. I looked at the the SB600 and the SB800, but decided the 800 was worth the extra $$ because of its extra flash output and its ability to act as a "commander" using CLS. Now, own two of these guys!
