3 out of 5 stars Good 5.1 System, stop working after 8 months   August 2, 2006
ok, i can't complaing about the sound, it's not the best but it's nice and smooth, enough for my small room, but there's a problem with these things 'cause the subwoofer stop working after 5 or 6 months i got a new one thanks to the warranty, but the sub doesn't sound again! looks like there is a problem with some pieces inside the subwoofer 'cause i've got the same problem one more time, and a friend of mine bought one of these and no surprisses, the sub is broken, it's like these thing was designed to last only 8 months. :s

5 out of 5 stars Awesome set of speakers   May 3, 2006

Well let me start off by saying I bought these speakers because at the time they were on sale AND had free shipping. I really wanted surround sound and didn't want to pay for high quality.

To my surprise I got really good quality. I think I only paid 45 for them at the time. (this was right before hurricane charley so i've had them for almost TWO years.)

I would reccomend these speakers to ANYONE who wants decent sound from a cheap set of speakers.

2 out of 5 stars Great Speakers.....but watch out!   September 8, 2005
I bought these speakers probably over 5 months ago. The sound was incredible for the price and everything was working smoothly. Unfortunetly, a week ago the speakers quit working. I took the piece apart and realized that the subwoofer was not recieving power from the power cord. I tried everything...from replacing the fuse to putting in new wires, Nothing Worked! I am not an expert electrician, but I know enough to fix and work on items that I own and I was completely blown away by the fact that something inside the internal power box fried. The speakers were plugged into an APC power unit so there is not a chance that the speakers could have recieved a power spike. I do not have an explanation, only that I will not be buying from Logitech anytime soon. Like I said, awesome speakers...but watch out and take care when considering purchasing these speakers.

2 out of 5 stars Terrible Sub design   May 20, 2005

OK, bare with me here...

I got a set of these with a purchase of a DELL computer in the fall of '03. The sub went bad in a matter of less than 3 months. The internal amp just died. Just all of a sudden up and died one day.

Contacted Logitech and they sent me a whole new set without requiring me to send them back anything. (Probably would have cost more in the shipping than it was worth the effort to.)

Starting about November or December of '04, I noticed a rattling noise coming out of the sub. Sounded like the speaker had come loose from its mount. Disconnected the sub and attempted to take the grill off and see for sure. No success. Couldn't get the grill off. Unscrewed the back panel to have a look inside. Again, no success. Some wiring holds the panel close to the case.

Anyway, a little while later, I started noticing crackling sounds coming from my whole speaker system. Finally discovered that it was due to the sub. Because the sub started to cut out on me again, and when it did, the crackling would stop, but of course, I had no bass. Leaving me to believe that the internal amp was causing the crackling.

The sub continued to cut out from time to time, and I could get it to kick back in by pounding on the side of the case with my closed fist. Talk about "getting this old bucket of bolts" going again. Ironically the thing has been working somewhat well for the past week or so, but as of today (5/19/05) it looks like it's finally cut out on me this time for good. So here I am looking for a replacement set.

BTW, I will now have two complete sets of satellite speakers. If anybody needs a replacement. Let me know. We can work something out.

EDIT: Forgot to explain the title of my review.
I said that it's a terrible design for one main reason. There is no ventilation. It's an enclosed box. It also gets extremely hot, which leaves me to believe that the heat is what burns out the amp. Therefore, I'm leaning towards to the Z-5300e system which includes a sub that has a "blow hole" for just over $100.

5 out of 5 stars Love it!   April 11, 2005

Good price, great value!

This system was a real steal for $40 ... I'd highly recommend it! Pretty easy to use, and cool blue light on the center speaker (which is bright, but very space-age).
