Does it read SDHC (Secure Disk High Capacity)? February 1, 2008 1 out of 10 found this review helpful
It doesn't say whether it reads SDHC (Secure Disk High Capacity)? Better to be safe: buy one that is ready for SDHC.
Great but... January 31, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great product the only thing that disappointed me was the fact that my PRINTER already has a card reader. God I'm so stupid. I bought it because my macbook didn't have a card reader and all along my PRINTER has a card reader. Practically every printer now has a card reader.
I thought the grip on the bottom of the reader wasn't enough to hold and stay on my desk and the reader kept ending up in the back and sometimes falling.
Easy, plug and Go. No disk. Nothing just plug and it works right away. Works on Macbook, Macbook Pro, Mac, etc. and of course on PC.
Lightning fast . . . January 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you have a digital camera and shoot in the RAW format, you will most likely be dealing with some huge files. My old card reader was taking an eternity to transfer data, so after checking the reviews I got this one.
There are good reasons why this product is so highly rated. The performance is amazing, lightning fast, just as advertised. Downloading a filled 4GB CF card which used to take about an hour, now takes less than five minutes. Besides compact flash, there is also a slot for SD cards.
A high speed reader like this is a real time saver at the start of the workflow process, and well worth the modest price.
WOW!!! Excellent product, excellent seller January 25, 2008 I used to download my pictures using a PCMCIA card reader, and even the fast CF cards would take forever to download (approx. 0.9 Mbps). When I got the Sandisk Extreme USB 2.0 reader, I was able to get downloads 16 times faster, up to 14.8 Mbps, so a 2Mb 133x card went from over 40 minutes to 2 1/2 minutes to download, so I'm really impressed.
Fast with SD, OK with CF January 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This might be the fastest USB CF reader today (is it?) but it isn't as fast as I hoped.
Using HDTach, I could read a couple fast UDMA CF's at 18.1 MB/sec with this reader.
The same CF's connected though a CF-SATA adapter, read at 42 MB/sec and 36 MB/sec.
A hard drive connected through USB can be read at about 35 MB/sec.
Oddly, performance for SD was quicker. I was able to get 19MB/sec with this reader. That's close enough to the max speed of any SD today, far as I know. (CF can be faster than SD, today.)
It's a good product, just not as fast with CF as one might expect. If you want faster, consider a firewire reader if you have firewire, or a UDMA CF-ATA or CF-SATA adapter if you have some patience to get them to work properly, and know how to connect them to your computer.
Another option for laptops is a cardbus UDMA CF reader. Delkin sells one. But may be difficult to get working with Vista or OSX.Delkin Cardbus 32 Bit High Speed Compact Flash Card Adapter, UDMA Compatible
