Quicken 2007 Delux Mng'mt Software September 24, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased Quicken because of frequent frustration (Problems saving & backing up their competator's software) I've used for many years. The straw that broke the camel's back was the total loss of historical data associated with that program. Quicken was easy to load, relatively easy to use and, best of all, I have had NO PROBLEMS with saving and backing up data to date!
P.S. Delivery was quick!
Weak effort September 7, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Quicken is annoying in that it could be so much better. Setup was not as simple as they advertise, particularly if your financial institutions don't play exactly well with their system. The package contains NO documentation. For new users, learning to use the system requires the download of a manual that doesn't exist online anymore, or relying on community message boards full of angry customers. Plus, the software is full of tie-ins to Quicken's ancillary services that clutter the interface and feel like advertising on the inside of a fully-priced product. Customer support is perfunctory and poor. The interface is ugly and uninspired. Hopefully they'll do better on the next one, but you have to wonder if they ever bothered to test this on new users (or any users, really).
I couldn't register September 4, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I tryed to register the product but as my adrs. is beyond the USA borders it was not accepted, so I registered it with a friend's adrs. which I think is not fear. About the "user's Manual" the say that there is one included in the pakage, and there wasn't any, tryed to download it from the web but the site is not avaliable for me. Victor Cohen
Quicken quality has changed for the worse August 27, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Am computer literate, and have used both Quicken and Turbo Tax for 10+ yrs. The product has become littered w/internal ads you cannot get rid of (customization feature does *not* allow removal of Quicken self-promotion ads). Although the software still delivers fundamental needs of Home Accounting, my comments are directed at the quality of the program and the purposeful marketing embedded into the product that you (the customer who *PAID* to use it) now has to endure. 1) You can only use Quicken's OFX download method for adding data to Chkg/Savings/CredCard, unless you you want to hand enter everything. They charge banks for this - so they (Intuit) benefit from this financially. And now banks are starting to charge us consumers (EX: Wachovia $5.95/mo *per* account!). 2) Any OFX problems and you have to deal w/Quicken via their email/submittal question procedure - if you want to talk to a person it will cost you $25 bucks each time. 3) My history is that I have updated Quicken 2 of 6 total times over the last 10 years because I wanted to - the rest of the purchases were forced by Quicken as the account I was managing would no longer allow updates for one reason or another if I didn't - even if I did not need or want the new feature. I know that sounds strange, but the design and problem was such that I had no choice. So effectively I have *bought* ('update'=BOUGHT) the program over and over at least 6 times over the last 10 years. Problem is I'm fed up w/2007 version as the issues above just keep growing. This was a great product in its beginning - when they (Intuit) needed customers. Now it appears to have changed - the product is more important than its customers. They get you hooked into their OFX system, then advertise into your head (Quicken Mastercard and Quicken BillPay) each time you use the product. This is considered clever I guess - but I regard that and the product's design now as a purposeful marketing trap that continues to get worse each year. So yes - it will do some good things - but know going in you are not making a purchase - you are buying into a long-term lease that even 'suggests' you change banks if they dont use Quicken OFX! I'm now looking to change to a more customer-oriented financial software package because I've realized Intuit is not going to change this behavior. Expect Quicken 2008/9/10 to be even more intrusive and self-promoting. FAQ's will explain why all this is a good thing - and customer feedback on these concerns will get you a trite 'Thank you for your comment' response from Quicken/Intuit. Good luck - this product will work fine as long as you play by their rules paying the extra bank fees if needed, etc..
Big Disappointment - Corrupted data, broken downloads August 18, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
It's painful to decide to switch financial mgmt software after using Quicken since 1998. It's been a great program with all previous releases. But a forced upgrade from Quicken 2004 has landed me in Quicken 2007 hell which involves corrupted data, broken downloads, missing/disappearing downloaded transactions, etc. It seems like they spent all their engineering time tweaking colors and icons and forgot that CORE FUNCTIONALITY of data integrity is PARAMOUNT in financial mgmt software.
Until Intuit shows that they understand the depth of their failure here and beg forgiveness from their loyal customers, they can kiss me goodbye. I'll be buying a demo version of MS Money tomorrow.
