it's a fun toy, but don't expect it'll give you amazing images. But for $40, it's a pretty fun toy to have!
The reason it didn't fit my camera! June 7, 2007 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I got this lens for my Canon Rebel and could not get it on to save my life. I took it to a camera shop and they thought that maybe 47th St had sent me the wrong ring adapter. When I called 47th St Photo they knew right away why I was calling! Apparently Opteka changed the threads on the end of the lens and didn't notify them so they had sent out the wrong adapters. I am sure that from now on people who buy them will get the correct one and I'm so glad it was a minor issue!
I haven't taken any pictures with it yet, obviously. And I knew ahead of time that there would be the circular vignette around the pictures, I did some reading online about the different fish eye lenses before I ordered one. These reviews are great places to start, I would recommend that people read these before they actually buy the product!
Thought this was a full fisg eye lens... June 3, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Didn't realize I was buying a 'semi' fish eye.. as nothing in the description said so. :( was disappointed about that. Had i known..i would have look elsewhere. But the lens is okay.. no real instructions or any information on how to use.. unclear as to what the 'hood' or whatever that thing is..does. The lens cap/cover just fits over it.. nothing too secure, so it keeps popping off.
Fun lens for decent price May 18, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
For the price you pay for a wide angle lens, or fish eye lens - it's a decent price. If you break it, you don't feel as bad since it doesn't cost so much. The limitation is a black ring circle (from the lens) on a rectagular or square format (the photograph). Don't really have issues with the quality of the photograph. Overall, you can't really beat the price.

The lens really is a pair of two lenses. Assembled both, become a semi-fisheye/wide lens what, has that circular border (as in a common door fisheye) that gives the photo some interesting effect. Also, you can have wide angle photos just changing the focal length.
The second part is a real cheap macro lens that can be detached. It has some interesting features and you can get decent pictures with almost no distance at all (though, you need some light). There's a small distortion, but it can be handled easy.
It comes with a couple of adapter rings (52mm and 58mm) for different cameras. I used it with a Canon Digital Rebel XT and it really gives you the idea of a wide angle lens. It may not be as some professional lenses, but the desired effect is enough.
Above all that, it's insanely cheap for a wide/macro lens. And that's a good combo for less than 40 bucks.
