A great mag azine devoted to figurative sculpture, January 26, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I commend Sculpture Review for the way it connects present day sculptors with past creators of the world's legacy of figurative sculpture. Each issue illustrates a theme seen from many angles. Living in Santa Fe, living in art, I enjoy the whole gamut of art magazines. The edgy, extreme, installations and multi-media-events world gets great coverage elsewhere. Sculpture Review stands out as highly informative about past and present-day sculptors who haven't abandoned the notion of beauty with meaning. SR looks at figurative sculpture in all eras and cultures. It covers enduring pinnacles of the past, their appreciation and preservation; and also looks at the many ways today's representational and figurative sculptors build and innovate on those estimable foundations. SR is the go-to magazine for us.
Booooooring! February 13, 2006 5 out of 13 found this review helpful
Yet another publication that ignores modern sculpture. Yes, we know that people sculpt the human form, but there is other work to be explored. This magazine is for tired old windbags who want to stare at the same style of sculpture all day. It should be called "Figurative Sculpture Review". Waste of money, and they don't give refunds!
This is an unusual and interesting magazine December 11, 2005 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is an often beautiful and even more often useful magazine published by and for sculptors and people who love sculpture. It's not about the art world or the mainstream art market, but rather about sculptural issues: form, content, technique and history. It's international, diverse and surprising.
A must for figurative sculptors November 29, 2005 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Years ago, I subscribed to Sculpture Review when it was a magazine printed entirely in B/W, and focused on a narrow vision of figurative sculpture. About a year ago, I picked it up again on the newstand and was surprised to see color plates, and informative articles covering a broad range of work, profiling historical and contemporary sculpture.
A test for me with a publication is if the articles are informative and "readable," and if I'm introduced to good work that inspires. I find the new format of Sculpture Review fulfills both these requirements.
