Only for those who already strongly familiar w/art scene April 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
An art magazine that ISN'T IN COLOR - and a subscription you CAN'T CANCEL. Unless you are already familiar with many artists, dealers, critics, this is not going to tell you any more about what's happening in art today than newspaper reviews/articles or the internet. There are very few photos, and the only color is on the cover. I want art magazines to show me the art across the country that I'm not able to go see in person - this magazine does not do that. If you are an art industry person and want up-to-the-minute info about who's doing & saying what - then artweek is probably for you. I wish I could cancel my subscription. $60 down the drain.
decent magazine with solid info August 4, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
A year and a half ago I moved out of the SF Bay Area. One of the things I miss is this magazine. If you are interested in Art on the West Coast, its unsurpassed. Also, if you're an artist, Artweek's classifieds are a must read. Particularly nice is their section listing juried shows you can submit your work to. These shows are not just West Coast, but national, with an occasional international show listed as well.
While the magazine itself rates 4 stars, I substracted 1 star for their poor customer service. If you try to phone Artweek's 800 number no one ever picks up. Instead you are directed to their voicemail which is always full, so you can't even leave a message. I've tried to reach them at various times over the last couple of weeks to subscribe, but no luck. Unfortunately, you must phone them if you would like your subscription to include their current issue (according to their website). Bummer, that.
Basic Description: The magazine is a thinnish, large-format, non-standard sized mag with a color glossy cover and black and white newsprint pages inside. The last issue I purchased has 32 pages (including their classifieds).
