Product Description The DMC-FZ8 features the 12x Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens that packs the same zoom power as a big, clunky 400 mm-class film camera lens. This 12x optical zoom lens is super-bright at f/2.8 to f/3.3 with a focal length of 6 to 72 mm. Rotate the lever a small amount for slow zooming, and a larger amount for high-speed zooming. This makes it easy to zoom in and out quickly when you need to or to slow down for finer zooming control. Zoom Resume stores your zoom position (magnification) in memory, so you can shoot with the same zoom setting once the power is turned on again. This helps make sure you don't miss those great shooting opportunities. The CCDs used in most digital cameras have much smaller light-receiving areas than film does, so photos tend to have a high depth of field. You can snap photos that capture the subject in a clear, sharp focus while giving the background a beautiful soft focus. 0.44-inch Viewfinder Color EVF (188 K Pixels), 100% Field of View Image Sensor - 1/2.5-inch AF Assist Lamp ISO Sensitivity - Auto, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1250 (High Sensitivity Mode - 3200)Dial - P (Program), A (Aperture Priority), S (Shutter Priority), M (Manual) Mode, Simple and SCN Scene Mode - Portrait, Soft Skin, Scenery, Sports, Panning, Night Portrait, Night Scenery, Food, Party, Candle, Baby1, Baby2, Pet, Sunset, High Sensitivity, Starry Sky, Fireworks, Beach, Snow and Aerial Photo Shutter Speed Program AE - 1 - 1/2,000 seconds Aperture Priority AE / Shutter Priority AE - 8 - 1/2,000 seconds Manual - 60 - 1/2,000 seconds Built-in-Flash - Auto, Auto Red-eye Reduction, Forced On, Forced On Red-eye Reduction, Slow Sync Red-eye Reduction and Forced Off Dimensions - Width 4.43 x Height 2.84 x Depth 3.11 inch (112.5 x 72.2 x 79.0 mm) Weight - 357 grams with Battery and SD Memory Card (0.78 pounds)

Very good photo quality May 17, 2008 I purchased the Lumix FZ8 from Amazon about a month ago and I am very satisfied with the results and quality. While you can't expect to get the level of detail and clarity as you would from an expensive DSLR, you can expect very good shots. Eventhough this camera has a 12x zoom, you can decrease the MP from 7 to 3 and the zoom goes to 18x optical. There are a ton of features in this camera. It's very lightweight and easier to carry than my old Minolta w/ a 210 zoom. I compared many digital cameras before choosing this, but this had the best cost/benefit for me. [...]
probably the best advanced point and shoot available! May 14, 2008 Fabulous lens for the small sensor - the images are very sharp at most aperture ranges. Performs much better outdoors with exuberant light - not so hot inside or with limited light due mainly to the sensor limitations.
The sensor seems to be on the par with all the other major players - ISO>200 becomes kind of ugly for decent size photographs or full computer screen. (but this is the rule for all sensors at this size anyways)
Very sturdy and still working like the first day.
Overall fantastic advanced point and shoot camera - I use it mainly for light travel or as backup to my DSLR. (I shopped and played with most of the other brands before buying but this seemed just right!) Recommended!
Great cam, and price dropping with newer models coming on May 5, 2008 found my FZ8 at Wal-Mart, on a clearance sale, $170. Great buy, and a great camera. Especially with fast 2.8-3.1 lens.
Digital Camera April 14, 2008 Tis is a wonderful camera. It is easy to use and can be used for any level of photography from totally automatic to fully manual. either way you get great results.
Panasonic, thought was 2nd tier camera! I was wrong March 31, 2008 Very high quality. ALot of options. I believed the reviews i read, i checked on the dpr site and got a HIGHLY recommended. It is a great purchase and i have taken over 1000 photos since i bought it. Small smeared photos but that is from my hand shaking. Overall it is fantastic and easy to learn.
