Garbage TV Stand and Garbage Customer Service November 28, 2008 DONT BUY THIS TV STAND
In fact close this page and shop somewhere other than Amazon ! After receiving this 100 + lbs of broken furniture Amazon now wants me to lug this box (with a broken back mind you)... to the post office to return it !!! I've asked and now argued with amazon to have UPS retrive it since they left it but Amazon seems to only hire idiots who excel at incompetence and nothing else continues to send me USPS return labels .... I now have 5 of them .... Do your self a favor and don't buy this ... or anything else from Amazon.
Received badly damaged just like another buyer. Poor packaging. October 3, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a gorgeous tv table but you will never know because it will arrive broken to pieces. The packaging of this item is horrendous to say to the least. Didn't bother to replace. Got my money back because I figured the next one would come as damaged as this one.
Dont trust Target!! May 30, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Twice they shipped it, and twice it came (very) damaged - huge cracks in the top piece - its about 90 lbs and very hard to return. For some reason things from target just aren't packaged well - ive had this happen before. My suggestion - buy it in the store and ask if you can check the largest piece in the box on the very bottom - thats the piece that has no packaging material to protect it. It will save you a lot of headache!
On the plus side - it looks amazing once it is finished, and I had absolutely no problem putting it together (i'm a girly girl and I was able to figure it out and do it myself). The directions were dead simple and everything fit together perfectly.
Even though it came horribly damaged twice, I still think this is a great piece - I just wouldn't buy it online - and try to avoid purchasing things online from target - you just are never sure of the quality or the shipping.
Looks great when finished but... June 4, 2007 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
...it's the biggest pain in the butt to assemble.
Having viewed many TV stands over the past weeks, I chose the Uptown after seeing the real thing on the showroom floor of my local Target. I liked its smart-looking design and the space it created for my electronics (DVD player, Playstation, etc.). So I gathered together my tools and got to work on the assembly.
A three-hour wrestling match with shoddy workmanship ensued. I followed the instructions to the letter, even triple- and quadruple-checking them, but no amount of careful adherence to the directions could've saved me from the hassle that followed.
Sometimes the holes wouldn't align or they appeared on the other side of the boards than shown in the instructions. On more than one occasion I started drilling screws to find that no corresponding divot had been created in the adjoining board, and the screws refused to penetrate the wood as a result. When it came time to assemble the slide-out drawer--the last step in the construction--the holes in the serrated clamps and the groove in the bottom of the drawer didn't match up, creating a drawer that sat too high on the sliding rails. Needless to say, it didn't shut properly. I had to unscrew the drawer and jerry-rig it just to get it to slide in properly.
And that's the Uptown TV stand in a nutshell: About 70% by-the-numbers construction, and 30% jerry-rig. What should've taken an hour to hour-and-a-half took three hours to finish. The final product looks great, very smooth and sophisticated, but it was hardly worth it. My advice is to pass on this product and buy something name brand.
