3 out of 5 stars digital picture frame   August 14, 2008

9" are actualy 8", instruction are good, the picture is crisp, however it is not compatible with Vista OS. Thus the only way to see pictures is to transfer them to a memory chip

2 out of 5 stars battery is about to explode   August 10, 2008
Gave this as a gift to parents 12/2006. Has been working fine, but as my brother was going to upload more photos onto the card he found the back of the unit bulging out about half an inch. Turns out it is the battery growing larger and certainly will explode in time.
Wondering if anyone else has had this problem - I couldn't find any recall notices on the web.

2 out of 5 stars User inteface is terrible and documentation worse   August 5, 2008
I received this as a gift, along with a memory card with pictures, and figuring out how to transfer the pictures from the memory card to the device was unnecessary painful. In the menus, there is no visual choice for returning to the previous menu, or cancelling. You have to find out how to do it by carefully reading the documentation. Don't give this to someone unless you can spend some time with them helping them figure it out.

3 out of 5 stars the 9 inch, which is 8 inch, Philips Digital Picture Frame, Metal   August 5, 2008

The performance of this product is outstanding. The size of this item is not quite 8.2 inches, or really barely over 8 inches, yet has been noted as a 9 inch frame. That keeps me from rating this as five star. When pricing digital frames, I looked at 9 inch frames for comparison.

The nicest features of this unit includes the automatic rotation when turning the frame from landscape to portrait, even when held in hand, back and forth. A very nice display, and you can even have the time display as well.

Again, I would have given this five stars if it was advertised/sold/represented as a 8 inch digital frame. If I wasn't already late for the gift presentation, I would have sent it back and asked for refund of the expedited shipping costs.

1 out of 5 stars Problems with using a Mac with this, also chip   August 5, 2008

Warning - I bought this product after a great experience with the smaller frame but I have had two big problems. (1) - a product problem= It would not accept photo transfers from my Mac laptop as the mac laptop disconnected the USB connection saying it was drawing excessive power (I have never had this problem before and it happened twice) - note that there are quite a lot of posts on the smaller Phillips frame reporting extensive problems with macs both at the operating system, hardware and photosoftware level (2) - an instructions plus user problem it turns out it seemed not to take the memory chip used by either my Sony or HP digital cameras which are reasonably popular makes but the slot looks to a reasonably sensible consumer as if it is the right one (and the paper instructions are misleading) so I jammed the slot which lost me my chip and incapacitated the slot ! Be warned.
So I would be (very) wary if you are a Mac user or if you assume that a popular camera memory chip will work with this without very carefully checking. A disappointment considering how much I liked the smaller frame, which I loaded direct from camera.
