The Canon Off Camera Shoe Cord 2 was designed to assist photographers in more efficiently lighting their subjects. By allowing the flash to be moved off the camera, while retaining all flash functions, the shoe cord allows for better flash positioning, which translates into more controllable illumination. The shoe cord is compatible with all Canon EOS models, except for the EOS 630 and RT.
Product Description
This useful accessory maintains all on-camera flash functions for one Canon Speedlite used off-camera, at distances up to 2ft./60cm. Moving the Speedlite off-camera results in better control over lighting angle.

 Okay but can break easily. Bought 2 both broke. June 13, 2008
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2WY8W0TVWP584 This is a good product. However, caveat emptor (buy beware), the build of this product isn't the best. It's made of plastic and the part of the cord that is attached to your bracket can break very easily when your camera and flash are horizontal. The weight of the flash (and your diffuser) can break the plastic that keeps it in place.
I recommend screwing this piece in place to a bracket such as the Stroboframe Camera Flip Flash Bracket. Hope this review helps.

I had used the off camera shoe code for years with my 35mm equipment. Waited too long before buying this one for my digital gear, but am happy I finally bought it. I have a stroboframe bracket and it gets the flash up high enough above the camera that the shadows disappear along with the red eye problem. I bought this in combination with a Omni-bounce flash diffuser, which I had also used in the past and was very satisfied with the results.
You can't go wrong with the Canon off shoe cord, it's very handy and works like a champ.

Does what it's supposed to. The price is a little bit on the costly side considering it's just a wire. Of cource it's needed if you are going to do off camera shoe flash photography with a dedicated Canon flash.

but I agree with other reviews - should be more reliable - seems very flimsy and will have a short lifespan.

Great little cable, necessary for that flash bracket - I am a little concerned with my Canon 430EX flash unit on it and have tried to be careful not to bang it around while on the adaptor as I'm concerned it seems a little flimsier than I would have hoped, but no trouble so far (just shot my first wedding with the equipment).
