| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description T'Pod MagMount is a tough, table-top sized tripod that packs into a 3.5"x 1.5"x 8.5"carry case (included). T'Pod also utilizes Trek-Tech's innovative MagMount system for instant mounting of cameras, optical devices and Trek-Tech's shooting rest, the ShotRest. T'Pod is a high quality device intended for use with digital and film SLR cameras, full-sized spotting scopes, laser range finders, and as a prone shooting rest (with optional ShotRest mounted on MagMount). MagMount is an industry-first, magnetic quick-release camera and optical device mounting system. It provides for the instant attachment of almost any camera, spotting scope or other device that uses industry standard 1/4"-20 mounting threads. The MagMount is a standard feature of the T'Pod, but is also available as a separate accessory. MagMount provides unprecedented levels of flexibility and functionality for outdoor photographers, birders, and hunters. Many additional uses have also been suggested, such as portable lighting, microphone mounting, etc. Once you've used a MagMount in conjunction with any of your optics stabilization tools, you'll wonder why no one thought of this concept before!

Excellent tabletop tripod May 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a very well made tabletop tripod. It consists of three parts. 1) the base, 2) the ball joint head and 3) an extension section that can be placed between the base and the head. Additionally, it comes with two 1/4" NC threaded ( standard 1/4" camera tripod thread ) magnetic camera-to-head couplers.
Although the description says that it supports up to 9 pounds I would not count on it. ( Try this with someone else's camera. This reminds me of the lightweight steel shelving that supports up to one ton. They both do, sort of; as long as there are no stresses. At the MOST, I would allow maybe four pounds but I don't have insurance for cost or assurance for support )
It is NOT lightweight but it is very solid. Unless you have an SLR, this tripod is going to weight more than your equipment.
The magnetic adapter is, as I said, attached to the camera tripod socket with a standard 1/4" NC stud. The magnetic adapter with attached camera is by a similar magnet to the balljoint head. This definitely does not supply a lot of confidence. ( Would you like to be suspended by nothing more than a couple of magnets over a swamp full of IRS agents whose house are being foreclosed? ) The magnetic coupling is very secure, however 1) anything such as sand or grit between the two magnets is going to severely degrade the degree of coupling 2) like all such systems, a good knock will break the coupling. ( The company does supply a clip to "secure" the coupling. Better than nothing.
Additionally, the extension is attached to the base with a similar magnetic coupling. The clip can be used on this joint, too. However, the unit is only supplied with one clip whereas two are actually required.
All in all, despite the slight limitations which are a cause for concern, this is a very nice table top tripod. Just be careful of exceeding a few pounds if your are outdoors, in the wind or on a insecure surface. ( Obviously it is much more stable indoors on a table top where it cannot be kicked or bumped )
