4 out of 5 stars the rumors are true, this bag is SMALL!   October 14, 2008
2 out of 3 found this review helpful

i'm taking off one star because this bag is small and i find the photos and description on here quite misleading.

let me be clear though, i am happy with this bag. i received it as a gift, it was on my amazon wishlist. i did read all these reviews before receiving it this past weekend and i kept reading how small it was... didn't believe it until i saw it and tried putting my equipment in there!

so where to begin... well here is the equipment that i have so far. a nikon d80, an 18-135mm lens, a 105mm micro-nikkor lens (which is quite bulky), and a 50mm lens. i also carry around my battery charger, my ML-L3 remote, and two of my lenses have the lens hoods attached... in the reverse direction to save room, but it still adds width to the lens which makes things tricky.

since i've received this bag, i've had the large-ish 105mm attached to my d80, and with the lens hood attached it fits VERY snugly. luckily my 18-135mm fits when placed upright in the bag, so thankfully the bag is deep enough to accomodate that. just those two items eat up much of the room. i can fit my 50mm in there because it's so small, but i don't imagine being able to fit more than that. the description said you could fit 3-4 lenses in there, that's a load of crap quite frankly. i don't even want to consider my 50mm a "lens" in this situation because it's so small... anyways my point is, if you've got three "medium" sized lenses, good luck fitting them in here with your slr.

having said that, the build on this bag is great, i feel like my equipment is very well protected in there. it's also great to be able to move the inside partitions around, that is definitely a must since the space for the slr when the bag arrived was too small, i had to adjust it to accomodate my d80.

i honestly don't think a d300 would fit comfortably in here. i plan on adding the mb-d80 vertical grip to my camera and i know for sure the d80 equipped with the mb-d80 will NOT fit in this bag. so if you use that piece of equipment, you'd likely have to remove it in order to use this bag.

the outside flap/pocket and pouch are good for carrying small things like your keys and wallet, and that is also where i keep my charger, remote, and memory cards.

overall, this bag is nice as long as you're happy with the fact that it is tiny. until i get more lenses, it's going to work fine for me. but if you've got equipment that is bigger than what i stated above, i don't think this is the bag for you.

4 out of 5 stars Small - Day Pack Size   September 20, 2008

Tamrac 5273 Expedition 3 SLR Photo Backpack (Black)This is a great little backpack. It works well for what I need for some trips. Yes, it is SMALL. Although the picture of the backback may be a bit deceiving, the product description described it perfectly. The dimensions were 9.5x8x14.5. The size of the backpack allows me to place the backpack under the seat in front of me when I fly and still have room for my feet. I don't like to put my backpack in the overhead as on some flights the flight attendents have re-arranged and re-located my backpack to other overhead compartments. I can fit my Nikon D80 with lens attached, one additional lens and flash. In addition, I store my Cannon Elf, chargers for both the Canon, Nikon and cell phone, extra battery, manuals and other small camera related items and some personal stuff. I even store a paperback book in the outside pocket. Yup, tight fit! Much easier for me when I'm dealing with luggage as well. I usually leave non-Nikon related stuff in the hotel room while I'm at my destination which lightens the pack. On trips where I have more time for taking pictures I usually take my larger backpack that stores my laptop as well and any other lens that I might want to take. As others have mentioned, getting into the packback because of the rain guard is a little tricky. Havent' had the zipper stick, but it's a two hand operation. On the other hand, I doubt that anyone could get into the backpack in crowded areas and you not know it. The shoulder straps are stiff and not the most comfortable, but tolerable for me. The backpack is very well constructed. I would recommend this backback, but, do your homework. Read the product description and not rely on the picture. The backpack is small....great little daypack!

2 out of 5 stars way too small   September 18, 2008

The picture tends to make the product look larger than it is. When I recieved the product I had to decide if I would keep it or not. I kept it and use it for short trips but it doesn't hold much.

5 out of 5 stars excellent choice   August 15, 2008

Loved, loved this case. It's just the right size for my needs. Holds my Nikon body and 3 lenses as well as flash. I'm not a professional photographer, but enjoy quality products...it's not a mongo, flashy, here I am and I've got expensive gear kind of look. Would buy again.

4 out of 5 stars Great bag, a couple flaws   August 10, 2008
0 out of 1 found this review helpful

The bag works well overall and has many compartments and configuration options.

My two problems were the straps killed my shoulders after a few hours. Mainly because they sewed leather strips onto the straps. This would drag my t-shirt, causing irritation. I had to cut off the leather strips. That wasn't too optimal.

Second was the big lip covering the zipper makes it a bit tough to zipper quickly. It gets stuck several times in the opening and closing process.

Even with those flaws, I still like the bag for its compactness, sturdiness, and style.
