Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Absorbs the ultraviolet rays which often makes outdoor photographs hazy and indistinct. A general use filter for Digital and Video cameras as well as color or black and white films. As it is made of optical glass and will enhance image quality, most photographers leave it on the lens at all times to serve as a lens protector.

4 out of 5 stars Seems well made   December 7, 2007
Just got this filter. I can't say it threaded totally smoothly onto the lens hood of my Panasonic PV-GS80 camcorder, however it did thread fairly smoothly directly onto the front of the lens. Many ppl have complained of stripping the threads of their camcorders so this was a concern. I'll try to update this review if the filter manages to come off during use but for now it feels tightly attached to the lens hood.

Shot a quick sample vid with and without the filter. Just viewing it through the 2" lcd preview screen, it looks to me like the filter presents just a very slightly darker picture (and I do mean extremely slightly). If you weren't looking for it you probably wouldn't notice any real difference. There is perhaps the slightish bluish/greyish tint added, but as I said before, unless you were actually looking for a difference in the picture, you probably wouldn't even notice a difference.

I cannot tell if both sides of the filter are coated or not. It is a really small filter being only 37mm in diameter. One of the reasons I bought this filter was supposedly the G Series from Hoya comes with multi-coating on both sides of the lens which is important because it prevents strange looking reflections from the inside of the lens from being visible in your videos.

I am now happy because I have some protection for my nice little camcorder lens. :) Hopefully through more extensive testing, I can find out whether or not this helps with glare.

***12/16/07 Update***

I have now used this filter for a bit and my biggest complaint is that you can see the edges of the ring at the widest angle setting on my camcorder. I use the Panasonic PV-GS80 so if you have this camcorder and you buy this filter it will be visible in your pictures if you are set at the widest angle. Since I have Image Stabilization sometimes it appears the edge of the ring is moving around since that's how it works out after the IS processes the image. As long as I stay away from the widest angle and zoom in ever so slightly I can avoid seeing the outer edge of the ring. Btw - it is only the far upper right, far lower right, and a sliver of the upper left that is visible. I can't see anything in the lower left corner. I'll try to work with it and see if I can get this to work because it really is nice to have protection of the lens. I have not had any threading problems as mentioned above and I have actually learned how to thread it securely. Threading is not an issue at all.
