5 out of 5 stars The Best   December 1, 2008
What else can you say about Wacom tablets. They are the best. I already have the larger 6 x 8 tablet but needed a smaller one for taking around. The 4 x 6 inch works great but the older model, a smaller 4 x 5 inch would have been even more practical. It's much smaller and more packable. The tablet has a nice smooth curved edge on the bottom so it's comfortable to use.

3 out of 5 stars Not my best Wacom experience   November 19, 2008
I bought this with the intention of using the mouse daily and the pen with less frequency, and that's held true so far. I use it with my laptop at home, and I have an older Wacom tablet for my PC at work.

Mouse:
If I had tried out the mouse first, I would have passed on it. Its paint coating started to chip off the sides after about a month of use, but more importantly, I find it ergonomically awkward. The settings for its speed/acceleration seem to make a big jump from one setting to the next, so it always feels either sluggish or out of control. Even the fact that the tablet is so much thicker than the average mouse pad throws me off and my wrist always seems a bit tense.

Pen:
I wrote down my office tablet's settings and duplicated them. While there are bound to be differences since it is an older tablet, an older driver, and I'm moving from a PC to a Mac, the exact same settings feel alarmingly different from one tablet to the other. I had to do a lot of guessing and checking over weeks of working to approximate the same settings to which I was already accustomed.

Tablet:
Design-wise, this is gorgeous, and the downward slope on the front edge is a bit more comfortable than those I've used in the past. I thought that the programable hot buttons were a great addition until I started to use the tablet; my left hand is busy picking out keyboard shortcuts, and my right is drawing, so those buttons just fall by the wayside. I've spoken to one colleague who swears by them, but aside from that individual, my thoughts are usually echoed back to me: they seemed like such a great idea, but I just don't use them.

Overall:
I still think that Wacom makes great products, and I ordinarily have glowing experiences with them. I dislike the mouse. The pen is very comfortable, but it surprised me how much trouble I experienced migrating from one tablet to another.

4 out of 5 stars I love my Wacom   October 24, 2008
My pen pad works great, it is pressure sensitive when drawing which is awesome! The mouse that comes with it is only so-so but i can keep my regular old mouse plugged in for everyday use & reach for the pen when needed on the wacom! It takes some getting used to, i reccomend playing simple online arcade style games with it to get the feel for it!!

4 out of 5 stars A great device, but it takes time to learn   October 9, 2008

I have a Windows XP system with two 19 inch monitors, one of which is a wide screen format. I also have a MacBook Pro with a 15 inch monitor. This device works wonderfully on both systems.

My biggest concern when purchasing was whether the 4x6 inch format would be big enough for my needs. Well, it is. I think anything bigger would be cumbersome because my hand would have to move much more in sensitive drawing configurations.

Having said that, this is not a particularly easy tool to master. It integrates with Adobe Illustrator perfectly, but the nature of the tools change when you go from a mouse to a tablet. Once mastered, I can see how this would speed up many drawing applications, but it takes a good deal of continuous practice to get it down.

And the mouse that comes with this thing is practically useless. The 4x6 pad is way too small for the mouse to do anything useful on a wide screen. The mouse is just too big for the pad, and the mouse you are already using will work much better. Not a big deal, though, because no one buys a pad like this for its mouse.
