Amazon.com Product Description
The Joby GP2-01P Gorillapod makes taking digital photos more fun than ever. Designed with self-timer photography in mind, the Gorillapod lets you mount your camera just about anywhere you want so that you can include everyone in your automatic shots. All you need to do is use the universal 1/4-20 screw to attach your camera to the standard tripod mount, then wrap the three flexible segmented legs securely to a nearby tree branch, fence, park bench, or anything else that's convenient. Say goodbye to holding your camera at arm's length to take a photo of yourself and your friends--now you can be free to pose however you like!

Durable and innovative, the Gorillapod weighs just 5.8 ounces, or 165 grams, and can support cameras--such as DSLRs--weighing up to 1.75 pounds, or 800 grams. Measuring just 9.8 inches in length, the Gorillapod fits easily into a purse, backpack, or even a roomy jacket pocket.

5 out of 5 stars Buy this tripod, it's simply amazing!!!!   August 18, 2008
I use this tripod with my Panasonic Lumix TZ5 and I assume it works with all the Lumix lines since they have the same standard tripod mount. This device has single-handedly changed the way I take pictures! I recently went with my gf on vacation and we were able to get such amazing shots of the both of us in a huge variety of settings because we were able to take "self timer" pictures of ourselves - and all without bothering other people to constantly take photos for us! The picture taker is always missing from a shot, but not with the Gorillapod!

Pros:

- Small and portable. Lightweight and easy to carry around. I carry it around in the pocket of my cargo shorts all the time. I'm certainly not going to lug a big tripod around. So for me, it's either this or nothing.

- Flexible legs can be used to grip around just about anything. This enables amazing and creative camera shots. And I mean anything! We hung it on trees, railings, set it up on the street, on cars, tables, chairs, etc.

- Get the shot you want using "self picture". How many times have I bothered some stranger to take a picture for me so that everyone can be in the picture? Usually, they don't frame it exactly as you like, you are lucky to get a couple of shots before you feel like you're imposing and it's impossible to take the time to set the camera to settings that create a good picture. With the Gorillapod, those are issues of the past!

- Great for night pictures or any picture with a long exposure. Again, this is true of any tripod but who is going to lug around a big tripod just to take better night time shots?

Cons:
- Has some trouble holding weight of camera in a fixed position. The mount attaches to the side of my Lumix camera. Because of that, in certain positions, the neck of the tripod sometimes folds under the weight of the camera - particularly in situations where the camera is already tilted a little relative to the legs of the tripod. So far, I've usually been able to position the camera in such a way as to overcome this issue. However, if the base/neck of the tripod was much stiffer, would be better. If your mount is in the middle of your camera base, then probably won't be a big issue.

All in all, don't hesitate to buy this tripod. It has completely changed the type of pictures I take and dramatically increased my picture taking as well!

3 out of 5 stars Great product... for very small cameras   August 18, 2008
I got this as I love taking photographs and have had experiences in which I have wished I had a tripod like this so I could place it in places in which my regular tripod wouldn't fit.

First thing to mention is that this thing is so small I don't think I will use it, and not because it is a bad product, but the problem is that I own a Sony Cybershot DSC-H2, which is quite big for this little add-on. As soon as I placed it on it the little thing fell down, which means I will not be able to use it at least for that camera.

I do own a little Flip video camera and it worked marvelous with it, since the camera is light and small, I could place it in lots of places without the tripod even moving.

Bottom-line, it is a good product if you intend to use it with small cameras, take a look at a Sony DSC-H2, if your camera is similar in size or bigger, don't get this.

4 out of 5 stars Bonzai Buddy!!!   August 18, 2008
I mean that cute piece of software that was such a viral success for a short period more than 10 years back.Whilst the Gorillapod initally felt like it had all the charm of the pet rock and much of the sale-ability of an earlier decade, the pod actually can be functual.
The Gorillapod is essentially a tripod seat ( or suction base, depending on your building point of view) based on 3 very articulated legs. The "top" of the legs can lock or unlock easily, depending on a turn right or left. And the screw that attaches to the base of a camera or anything that will accept the screw, can be detached with a press of
the small JOBY button, and pull on the screw.Once you take the screw out you can use the suction cup: this is best done by first putting the suction cup in the place you want it to go ( best a nice clean surface), but don't count on it carrying too much weight. After that, attach the legs, since they will just slot in to the wedge shape of the suction cup. The two permanent attachments work the same way, but make sure that where-ever you place them, that you really DO want them there... they are hard to remove.
The Tripod unit is the big point for me, since comparable units that come with cameras have no where near the same flexibility and attachability. With a little creative thought one can do a lot, and two can have a party.

3 out of 5 stars It's OK, Nothing Spectacular   August 16, 2008
The best feature of this mini-tripod is its flexibility. The multiple ball joints on each of the three legs allow for all sorts of shaping. Nevertheless, this tripod is subject to the laws of physics just like anything else, so the size and weight of the object you use on the tripod ultimately influences just how much of that flexibility can be put to use.

The product is sturdy and seems well made. I also have another mini-tripod of similar size that has bendable legs but nothing close to the flexibility of the Gorilla Pod. But then the other one cost $5 versus the Gorilla at 6x that much. For most applications the cheaper one is just as good, unless you want to wrap the legs around something. Even then, I wouldn't use an expensive camera or other device on a very contorted arrangement of the tripod because I don't think the legs are strong enough to maintain sufficient grip.

The tripod also comes with a suction cup, which I have found doesn't have real strong suction, so again, I wouldn't take a chance using the cup with anything very expensive. It also comes with two permanently adhering clips, which I haven't use so I have no comment about those.

Overall, this tripod is as good as any other mini-tripod and does have the advantage of its flexibility, but it is also pricey.

4 out of 5 stars Multi-use Tripod for a Small Camera   August 16, 2008
I tried this Joby tripod with my Sony Cyber-shot camera and it works great. It's small, lightweight, easy to pack and it's perfect for someone who wants to steady their camera for low-light shots or to use the timer. The amazing part is the ability to wrap the legs around objects to place your camera in otherwise impossible positions. This particular model would not work very well with heavier cameras. As for the suction cup and permanent adhesive accessories, I doubt I would ever use them. I would NEVER stick this to the dash/window of my car for my MP3 player, phone or GPS device. I would recommend the tripod without the accessories.
