Great for Art Students! October 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my first tablet and I have to say it exceeded my expectations. When I asked around, almost everyone recommended a Wacom tablet to me, so I looked around for a tablet that wasn't too expensive considering this was my first one. I found that the Bamboo Fun (medium) was the best tablet suited for me. The blue color was a really nice shade and the medium size was perfect for me. In my opinion, this is a great product for art students and graphic designers although professionals might want to use Wacom's Intuos3 tablet instead. I was really happy that I received my Bamboo Fun tablet in only 2 days.
When I opened it, Wacom showed me that they put a lot of effort into packaging their products. The 2 CD-ROMs, tablet, pen, mouse, and pen holder were neatly slotted into their own sections. The installation was a piece of cake, and the tutorial was very easy to follow and helpful for first time tablet users. The tablet has 4 buttons and a scroll wheel, called "Express Keys" can be customized to do all sorts of things like opening programs and files, type keystrokes, or switch applications. The scroll wheel is kind of like an I-pod's scroll wheel and can be set to scroll up and down or zoom in. The pen had a nice grip and was comfortable to hold. Then pen also had 2 buttons attached on the side of it which could be customized just like the Express Keys on the tablet itself. The cool part was that the pen had an eraser on the top too. The mouse is just a battery-free wireless mouse without a lot of buttons and functions. It must be used on the tablet though.
The programs that came with the tablet were very nice although they were a bit out-dated. Photoshop Elements 5.0, Corel Painter 3.0, and Nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 GE were nice programs to play around with even though I prefer Open Canvas over Photoshop.
All in all, I guess I'm really glad I got this tablet. It is well priced and works perfectly fine although it might lag once in a while. The buttons function perfectly and the programs are fun to use. I recommend this tablet is great for both casual doodlers/computer users and graphic designers!!!

My 14-year old daughter loves the bamboo fun medium blue. Very easy to set up on the computer and she really enjoys using it.

I don't have any complains. The board works as described. I like being able to draw on a board like this, the response is good too. Good choice for one who is just getting into this type of drawing.

This is an excellent tablet and stylus. The price is more then worth it for the size of the pad. It's wonderful!
Fun, Useful, Great Software August 20, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is the first tablet I have ever owned, and it's great! I was surprised by how light and thin it is. The angled edges make it look thicker in the pictures, I think.
It only took me about 20 min to go through some tutorials and get the whole thing set up. The buttons on the top are quickly customized to do whatever you want. I have mine set to "back", "forward", "show desktop", and "open firefox". I didn't find the scroll pad all that useful in non-graphic applications. The up and down scrolling is pretty clunky, so I prefer to use the pen. In graphics applications, however, it's very useful for quickly zooming in and out.
The pen works wonderfully for quick navigation. It works best when held at an angle just under 90 degrees. This is unnatural for me. I usually sketch with my pencil at something closer to 45 degrees. I found that if I don't hold it upright, the pen will draw or click when I don't want it to. This took some adjusting, but not enough to be a problem.
Another good thing about this pen is the eraser. I expect it to be a lot like erasing with a mouse, an all or nothing deal. But no, erasing with the pen is exactly like erasing with a pencil. The line gets fainter, depending on how hard you press, until it disappears.
All in all, this tablet is just plain fun! Out of the four available colors (black, white, silver, and blue) the blue is my favorite. It really stands apart from all the other black and gray computer peripherals out there.
