Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
2008 album from the forward-thinking Swedish titans, who seemlessly and fluidly combine Metal, Classic Rock, Prog, Folk and Free Form Jazz. With this, their ninth effort, Opeth continue to shake things up, turn the corner and push the limits of their sound. And the results are breathtaking. Ultimately, Watershed sounds at once completely like and absolutely nothing like previous Opeth records. Watershed takes all that is Opeth, and goes where Opeth have never gone before.

5 out of 5 stars Opeth Does it AGAIN!   December 22, 2008
Watershed is the ninth opeth album, and when i heard peter and martin were gone i was very nervous thinking wow this band wont ever be the same again but after seeing opeth at progressive nation it was like seeing them live with the members it was such a great show!

now on to the album, to me this album is probably my second favorite opeth album behind still life, only difference is in this album opeth really goes all out with the prog sound.

if your a true opeth fan or a fan of progressive rock or metal you will really like this album

1 out of 5 stars This style of music is for kids who know nothing about music.   December 19, 2008

I've tried several times to enjoy this band but it always leads to disappointment. The vocals switch from cry baby to a wanna be growl, the guitarists can't write any good riffs or play memorable solos, and the drummer probably fell asleep during the recording of this album. Opeth gives metal a bad image.

For good talent with variation and talent check out Limp Bizkit, Disturbed, Atreyu, As I Lay Dying, Linkin Park, and Kid Rock.

2 out of 5 stars Weak melodrama   December 15, 2008

While these guys are clearly very good musicians, I didn't like anything off this CD. They try for a wide dynamic range, mixing cleaner, melodic portions with muddy, heavy riffs, but it just doesn't work. All you get is weak melodrama that fails to grab the listener. Very disappointing.

Not recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Great Progressive/Death Metal!   December 7, 2008

This is my first CD of Opeth and I have to say I'm really impressed! I'm not really one for the Death "growl" of these bands and I'm starting to get use to it. I like the mix of soft, progressive, and heavy that they so beautifully give in there music. They are all excellent musician's and I hope they continue to give us great music!!!

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing...   November 27, 2008

To sum up this album in a few words would be to say that it sounds like an Opeth cover band. The chillingly beautiful moments are gone. The transitions are cheesy and abrupt. The riffs are more tame and boring. Mikael's vocal wankery is at a climax with this album. And to top it all off... Porcelain Heart.

I've been an Opeth fan since BWP and it kills me to write this, but it's only fair. It pains me to see a band that had so much promise spiraling down into the abyss of mediocrity. The next album will make or break the band, you can count on it.
