Product Description
NASA launches a yearlong celebration of its 50th anniversary in the fall of 2007, and Abrams is privileged to publish this visual history of its many achievements in manned and unmanned space travel. Written and edited by a team of experienced NASA staffers, and illustrated with many unpublished and rare photographs from the voluminous NASA archives scattered across the country, America in Space offers an unparalleled vision of half a century of exploration and discovery.

The story of Americas space age is told with more than 400 carefully selected images. The story begins in the 1950s with intrepid test pilots venturing ever faster and higher, and opens out into the now-legendary Mercury and Apollo missions of the 1960s that made astronauts into national heroes. The space shuttle era shows us what everyday space travel might look like, while grand vistas of the universe expand our sense of wonder. The large format of the book captures both the human drama and the vast scale of NASAs projects. America in Space is a photographic record of the greatest adventure of our time.

5 out of 5 stars A photographic All Systems are GO !   October 31, 2008
A large coffee table book containing the most comprehensive black-and-white and color photographic collection of the history of NASA I have every read. Many large unique photographs offering first hand insight of the people and equipment that put man in space. Too heavy for casual night time reading but a great photographic reference book for all ages. Very well organized with chapters from pre-NASA high speed flight testing to the Shuttle program. Highly recommended for those that wish to understand the history of the American manned space flight program.

4 out of 5 stars Coffeetable excellence!   October 24, 2008
Excellent coffeetable book this is. Great pictures, often well known, some less often published. Enormous size, interesting text. Great delivery service from Amazon.Com, the book was 10 days early!
All in all a true addition to any space-enthousiast library.

4 out of 5 stars Very Large, Very Inclusive   September 19, 2008
When I ordered this book, I had no idea quite how large it is, you need a serious coffee table for this very serious and all-inclusive book. The book provides both a detailed narrative and a plethora of photos from the beginnings of NASA's space exploration. This book is the definitive book about America's venture into space, in its first 50 years.

3 out of 5 stars Interesting   July 28, 2008
I bought this book from Italy, and it was a surprise for its dimension. It's big, but very nice, good quality pictures and step by step it takes you to learn how is amazing the new american space frontier.

5 out of 5 stars Wow the pictures are amazing!   July 19, 2008
I bought this book for my husband who is a space nut. It was actually part of his 40th birthday present and he loved it! Our kids love looking at all the large pictures in it as well and this book has plenty of pictures. It is a very informative book specially if you have ever wondered how this whole space thing started!
