1 out of 5 stars There are far better posing books - don't buy this!   May 26, 2008

Anyone from serious enthusiasts to professionals will eventually come to realise that they need more poses and come to Amazon for assistance. I was one of them! This book, however is considerably less helpful and I can not recommend it to my worst enemy! ...well, okay, maybe I can recommend to a worst enemy! : )

Like other reviews have already said (I should have read their reviews before buying), the whole book comprised of 1 model posing in 600 different poses... many are ordinary to outright poor posing. I can only imagine the author wanted to have 600 poses just for the sake of having 600 poses. I would much rather 100 good quality poses.

Secondly (again like other reviewers have already said), the whole book is black & white (for the price of this book, you would expect colour) and every photographs are reproduced like the newspaper photographs from about 15 years ago! ...to call it 72dpi dot matrix printer quality is to insult dot matrix printer.

Honestly, this book only has a chance of selling online because buyers do not get to pick it up and open a page or two before buying.

You can learn MORE from subscribing to a decent fashion magazine like Vogue. If you do want a book of some kind, I recommend "The Portrait Photographers Posing Guide" by Nigel Holmes.

3 out of 5 stars Nice but looks a bit cheap   March 7, 2008

This book is just filled with poses. In that, it does a good job, although your models need to be a little flexible and well-figured for most poses to still look right.
The printing is a bit shabby, cheap paper and very dotted images give this book more of a newspaper-type feel than a real book. Look through that, and you've got a nice inspirational book of poses. Nothing more, nothing less.

4 out of 5 stars posing: variety, variety, variety   March 4, 2008

This is a book for those who really want to get to work. Sven presents a zillion poses, in clear to understand pictures (in black and white). His short comments are seldom needed, the pictures say more than a thousand words ! Don't look here for beautiful images. The posing is done by a beautiful model in lingerie against a white seamless background. It covers ONLY the posing part, but then again, this is covered very well. After studying this book, you should be able to see in an instant what to tweak in a pose to get it right. This book is not only for image-makers, it should be read by models too !

1 out of 5 stars Poor print quality   February 27, 2008

I think this book is very interesting: good posing images with some tips, but with its price, the pint quality sould be better. The halftone dots of the inner images is the worst quality i've seen in years.

If the price has been less than the third it costs, I sould give the book five stars (or the inner print quality should be the same as the cover.

4 out of 5 stars Great compilation !   January 14, 2008

I am a professional photographer who shoots mostly outdoor portraits including families, high school seniors and weddings. I do not own a studio. One of the most challenging parts of creating an eye grabbing photo is matching the pose of your model to the surrounding. This takes a lot of years of practice and trial and error. The perfect pose for any given location can make or break an image.

With that said. This book is a great compilation of hundreds of poses that are easy to duplicate and follow and provides many different types of ideas. The poses include standing, sitting, using a chair and laying down. These poses are all covered very well.

There are no words or descriptions in the book, very few anyway, which is great because the poses speak for themselves. I would highly recommed this book to any amatuer all the way up to a working professional who may feel like they shoot the same shots over and over and need new ideas for poses.

The only reasons I did not give this book a 5 star is because the model is wearing her bra and underwear which makes it difficult to take the book to a high school senior photo shoot. The model in shorts and a tank top could have served the same purpose for the book and made it easier to share. Also, all the shots are done indoo
