Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This book/eBook package is you guide to getting more interesting and creative photos with your Olympus Camedia C-700 digital camera. This cross between a very readable generic camera guide and a photography 101 course discusses every available procedure, command, and photographic technique in a clear, well-illustrated style. It will help you quickly master your camera so you can start getting the kinds of photos you hope for. The book is printed in black & white and has a well-liked spiral binding that lets the book lie flat or be folded back. The accompanying eBook on a CD disc is a full-color version of the same book in Adobe's popular PDF format. It can be read on a PC or Mac using the included Acrobat reader or any current Web browser. The CD also includes trial versions of a number of the author's favorite programs.

4 out of 5 stars The missing manual   July 2, 2003

This should have been the manual that came with the camera! It's much more explanatory, has photos as examples, and is far easier to read and comprehend. You also get the entire book in electronic format, so it can be put on a PDA for field reference.

I especially liked the quick start sections, scattered throughout, making it easy to jump right in and try something.

The downside is this low production quality. The entire book is black and white, with a spiral binding. Ugh. The photos didn't print out so great in some of the chapters, and it looks far cheaper than the $25+ it lists for. I waited months and months before buying it, and only did finally cave when I had a gift certificate.

Still, I'm glad I have it now. I will not buy another one for future Olympus models, however.

4 out of 5 stars Off and running   February 3, 2003

With the magnatude of menu settings available for the Olympus Camedia C-700 Ultra Zoom I needed a reference book to help give me insight into the camera and the thinking that went into its design and features.

This book provided that information and more. In doing so, I've been able to experiment and get more out of the camera then I expected when I purchased it.

If you own the Olympus C-700 Ultra Zoom - this is a must have resource.

4 out of 5 stars comprehensive guide, novice or not.   December 11, 2002

Don't let the slim size of this book fool you. It's packed with information that will flatten the learning curve that comes with the C-700.

As a complete novice to photography of any kind, I definitely needed help. Not only did I learn a lot about how digital photography in general works, but the C-700's settings and menus were clearly explained in a step-by-step, try-as-you-go manner.

Throughout the book, the basics of photography were sufficiently explained to help get me started using the more complex features of my camera quickly and with understanding. Even if you're an experienced film photographer, this book would be useful, as it relates every setting and function of the C-700 back to 35mm film.

I don't give this book 5 stars as there are a few printing errors that make things a little confusing [referring to charts 'at left' that appear a few pages later], and the section on color isn't especially helpful, as it's printed in black and white.

However, with easy to understand "Quick Steps" examples, illustrative images, and useful content on every page, the 4 stars I do give Mr. Curtin's work are solid.
