More about style than technique October 3, 2008 As a photographer trying to sharpen their skills in architectural and interior photography I found this book frustrating. While stuffed with beautiful examples of his work, the bulk of the book focuses on styling and arranging scenes. This is undoubtedly useful in the grander scope of things, but when it comes to actual photography, lighting and the management of light trumps all.
The lighting section is annoyingly vague with diagrams that bear no relation to adjacent photographs. As a consequence, One has no idea what the results of the particular example would yield. I am not a person who needs detailed instruction on metering a scene or choosing an aperture but I would like to see a scene before the lighting was set and after.
This can be a very inspirational book for people interested in architectural photography but who lack the photographic knowledge to see the shortcomings of his instruction.
At bottom, this continues the tradition in the industry of revealing almost nothing about architectural photography.
Good book September 6, 2008 Good book for the beginning photographer. Gives great tips and ideas on how to shoot interiors.
Lots of pretty interior decors, ok photos, but no real information for photographers July 27, 2008 This book is for wealthy house wives wanting nice ideas on how to decorate their home, NOT for aspiring pro architecture photographers. I don't understand how this book got so many positive reviews. No real useful technical howto, 4 poorly drawn diagrams. The author is not sharing his secrets of course ! If you want some useful info, try "Photographing Buildings Inside and Out by McGrath, Norman "
Almost content free February 27, 2008 Neither a coffee table nor how-to book. Underwhelming photos, and very thin explanation of the process which created them. Diagrams don't match the photos. This was a real disappointment. Why aren't there any really good content books on this subject? The best I've read is Norman McGrath's Photographing Buildings Inside and Out, but it's dated now.

Mr. Roth, you're an inspiration and your work is nothing less than beautiful. I just started a (very) small side business photograhping homes for realtors and home owners. Your book helped me much with equipment selection, terminology, etc.
