5 out of 5 stars A great reference book   January 3, 2008

I'm consider myself an intermediate photographer and the author's approach to this subject works for me. This is not a how to book, but instead he mixes text and (mostly) photos. At this stage in my kdevelopment I need more visual and practical experience. The photos in the book represent a wide variety of subjects. The book is divided into three sections; the first two are what I consider the "meat". Composition and lighting are discussed in good detail. The last section is applying what the first two sections talked about in such areas as people photography and still lifes. I keep this book next to my bed and read it every evening before I sleep. As I mentioned it's not a how to book, but if you're ready to move beyond the "hand-holding" this is a great book to start with.
