Amazon.com Review Anatomy for the Artist is like having your own life-drawing studio in the privacy of your home. Carefully constructed photographs of the human form allow you to see the structure and function of the skeleton and main muscle groups. Six imaginative drawing lessons, each supported with photography, show how to portray the bones, head, rib cage, pelvis, hands, and feet in perspective, from different angles, both in still poses and in movement.
Product Description In "Anatomy for the Artist" acclaimed artist and academic Sarah Simblet unveils the extraordinary construction of the human body and celebrates its continuing prominence in Western Art today. Using superb specially commissioned photographs of male and female models together with historical and contempory works of art and her own illustrations, Sarah shows us how to look inside the human frame to map its muscle groups skeletal strength balance poise and grace.Selected drawings superimposed over photographs reveal fascinating relationships between external appearance and internal structure. Six drawing classes guide the reader to see the human body afresh offering techniques and attitudes that imagiatively show how to observe and draw the skeleton, head, ribcage, pelvis, hands, and feet. By investigating ten Masterworks the author shows the knowledge and ideas of different artists across tie ranging from Holbein's "Christ Entombed" to Edward Hopper's "Hotel Room". Great book! December 24, 2008 This book was in a great price, it got to me really fast and it was in great condition, the book content is really good and very artistic oriented, a great buy for its price.
a great complement to a more traditional guide December 12, 2008 If you've ever used yourself as a model and can't figure out how to draw a hand or other body part from memory while said hand is actually doing the work, this is a very useful book. amazing photographs, very buff models with great musculuture, covering every aspect of the human body in all colors and sizes. Actually wish some of their models weren't such perfect physical specimens so that we could see how real world fat and lumps and sags hang over human frame.
excellent anatomy book November 24, 2008 This book utilizes transparent layers to show how the skeletal structure sits underneath the muscles. There are also many detailed photographs and great examples in each section. A new twist to the anatomy book.
Excellent October 3, 2008 The purchase I made was everything listed when I bought it. It was in perfect conditon, and look forward to doing business with them in the future! Thank you!
Visually stunning September 24, 2008 This is a beautiful books full of beautiful pictures of incredibly beautiful people. Aren't beauty and perfection what artists are, in essence, desperate to capture? Well, this aestetically superior book gives us a glimpse of what levels of perfection the human body can attain. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in fine arts, or to anyone simply sensitive to the human body's unsurpassed beauty.
