Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
"No Reservations" is Bourdain's fully illustrated journal of his far-flung travels throughout the world. The book traces his trips from New Zealand to New Jersey and everywhere in between, mixing beautiful, never-before-seen photos and oddball mementoes with Bourdain's hilarious and outrageous tales of what really happens when you give a bad-boy chef an open ticket to the world. Want to know where to get good fatty crab in Rangoon? How to order your reindeer medium rare? How to tell a Frenchman that his baguette is invading your personal space? This is your book. With his trademark wit and soulful charm, Bourdain takes readers with him on a hell-for-leather world tour, eating, drinking, hazing his producers, and generally getting in and out of international trouble. For any of Bourdain's growing army of rabid fans, this is an indispensable opportunity to hit the road with the man himself.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book   January 7, 2009
The book was in perfect condition. It came a bit later than expected, but was in the time frame of when they said it would arrive.

4 out of 5 stars 'Round the World on Many Plates   January 3, 2009
"No Reservations: Around the World on an Empty Stomach" is a scrapbook detailing Tony Bourdain's culinary adventures. While it lacks Bourdain's usually incisive commentary, it makes a fun coffee table book. Though many book companions to TV shows lack coherence (Will&Grace,Sex and the City),"No Reservations" is classified by continent, with color commentary,a "food pr0n" section full of pictures, and an index of restaurants in the back. It makes for enjoyable&easy reading.

"No Reservations" has Bourdain chowing down on warthog in Namibia, being in Beirut during the Israel/Lebanon conflict, and surviving a massage at an Uzbek bathhouse. Bourdain brings his usual vim, vigor&vinegar. There's a funny section about bathrooms around the world,as well as what to pack.

"No Reservations" is perfect for the armchair traveler!

4 out of 5 stars Food and Travel   October 11, 2008
The book is a treatise on food and travel.
There are pictures of splendid scenery throughout
the world. For instance, the Sichuan Province is
depicted in full color. The Sunderbans are shown.
They are rice growers in tiger country. Excellent
views of Indonesia, the Balinese life and friendly
people are depicted in breath-taking color.

There is a beautiful scene of the Sarawak River
in a travelogue of Malaysia. The photographer
captured a very realistic picture of a Shanti
village in Ghana. The book would be a perfect
gift for the student in your house.

3 out of 5 stars Photo Essay   July 31, 2008
This book content is composed of mostly still photos from the television show. There is not much written content. I bought the book based on the other reviews expecting some deep written insight and background into each episode. Its not there.

It is a nice coffee table type of illustrated book if you are a big fan of the show. It does have some great photography. I also really respect how he puts his crew on the same level as him.

If you are looking for a good read though I would recommend Bourdain's other books over this one.

update: I just picked up 'The Nasty Bits'. That is the book you should read if you want more background on the people and events behind the television series.

Do you like food? Travel? A wiseass chain smoking New York host? Then this is for you! A great book by a really cool guy, about a really cool show. It's an overview of places around the world Tony Bourdain and crew visited and featured on No Reservations, and it's filled with information that never, ever, EVER could have made it on the air. True fans of No Reservations might get more out of this than a reader who has never watched the show but anyone can pick this up and catch the tone and flavor of one of cable TV's most uniquely audacious hour-long events.
